A Word from Pastor Waller

I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It’s a new year and we’re excited about “The Shift” that the Lord is bringing to our church. That’s right

this year, the focus, the thematic thrust of our church family is “The Shift”.

The Shift as we consider the deeper implications of spirituality, the deeper implications of our

pneumatology, and how we understand the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. I pray that this year as

you make a commitment to worship, to Bible Study and to Service, that you will also make a commitment

to the deeper things of the Spirit. Understanding how God’s spirit speaks to your spirit, how God’s out

pouring of his spirit on you (in terms of your gifting and your calling) is being worked out here at the

Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church.

There is a Shift that is happening. The maturation of our church this year will not be simply about the

number of people that join the church. It will be about how we as a people, grow deeper in our

relationship with God.

The Shift is looking at how we become the people God intended for us to be, so that we might spiritually

impact the community around us.

I am excited for you and I am excited about what the Lord is going to do with us this year.

Get ready for “The Shift”.

Shabach,

Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller

Senior Pastor

Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church

A Journey Worth Taking

I will commit to a journey of prayer and fasting during this Lenten Season. By faith, I can complete this journey through prayer, meditation and guidance from my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have faith that the Lord will deliver me from strongholds in my life that have affected my physical, mental and spiritual health. I acknowledge that my body is not my own and will nourish it because it is the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

Welcome to Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church’s 40-days of Prayer and Fasting. Whether you’ve journeyed with us in the past or are just beginning for the first time, our prayer is that restoration and spiritual growth be upon you. Just what is this journey and how do you begin? This journey is a powerful time in the life of our church family as we collectively dedicate mind, body and spirit through prayer, study of God’s Word, and the denial of flesh by adopting the Daniel Fast. Why 40-days? Moses, Elijah and Christ help us to understand their walk of faith. Moses, representing the law, only approached God on Mount Sinai after purifying himself by fasting 40-days (Exodus 24:15-18). Elijah, rep-

resenting the prophets, approached God on Mount Horeb by first fasting 40-days. Our Lord, after his baptism, prepared himself for public ministry by fasting in the wilderness for 40-days. Our adoption of the Daniel Fast embodies a faith walk much like Daniel’s resolve not to defile himself with the King’s food and to eat only fruits and vegetables and drink only water. This proved to be a great witness to God’s glory and power (Daniel 1). During this Lenten season we too want to experience the sacrificial giving of our-selves to the will of God in preparation for greater Kingdom service! While on this journey ask yourself “What covenant will I make with Christ to successfully complete this time of prayer and fasting?” Perhaps it is not only following Daniel’s path of health and healing but one that also includes abstaining from frivolous spending, gossip, negative thinking; all activities that separate us from God’s perfect will. As we cultivate our spiritual walk and physical temple through fasting, we’ll experience an overflow that will in turn cultivate family, church and community. Join us as we begin this journey February 13th Ash Wednesday, and culminate this blessed experience Resur-rection Sunday, March 31st During this time, take advantage of our FREE health screenings and “Living Fit Se-ries” which are a series of classes designed to encourage and empower your journey as we focus study and dis-cussion on Pastor Waller’s book “Enjoy Your Journey” Pastor Waller reminds us our journey may be hard but the reward is so much greater than we can imagine.

Enjoy Your Journey!

40-day Journey of Prayer & Fasting 2013

The Daniel Fast

Fast Observance: The Fast begins on Ash Wednesday, February 13, 2013 and ends on Resurrection Sunday, March 31,2013. The observance of this fast may be done as 40 straight days or the common practice of 6 days on and one day off, usually on Sunday.

Foods to include in the Daniel Fast:

Vegetables, preferably fresh or frozen vegetables. Vegetables such as sweet potatoes, beans and soybeans will help provide substance. Pure Fruit Juices or Fruit (no sweetened drinks, or sweetened fruit): apple juice, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice. It is advisable to take vitamin, mineral and possibly protein supplements during the fast. You may also include various nuts to serve as a protein supplement.

Behold I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Isaiah 43:19 Foods not included in the Daniel Fast:

Sugar and sugar products (desserts, soft drinks, etc.)

Drinks, including caffeine (coffee, tea, etc.)

Meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, eggs Foods to avoid in Daniel Fast:

Caffeine, carbonated soft drinks, milk, cheese, meat, white rice, fried food, refined sugar, sugar substitutes, food containing preservatives or additives, white flour and food containing it, butter, margarine and high fat products.

Side Effects: You may experience moderate to severe headaches for the first days as your body rids itself of caffeine, salt, sugar and various impurities.

Exceptions: Consult your doctor and/or pharmacist before starting any fast. Ask them about instructions for your medication while fasting. Daniel’s Food for My Temple: Whole Grains: barley, brown rice, oats Beans/Legumes: Red beans, black beans, dried beans, long beans, French beans, pinto beans, split peas, black eyed peas, Lentils. Vegetables: Asparagus, artichokes, broccoli, beets, bean sprouts, carrots, cabbage, celery, cauliflower, chili peppers, cucumbers, corn, cactus, eggplant, ginger root, garlic, kale, lettuce, leeks, mustard greens, collard greens, mushrooms, onions, okra, potatoes, pickles, parsley, rutabagas, radishes, spinach, sprouts, scallions, sweet potatoes, squashes, turnips, tomatoes, water chestnuts, yams, zucchini. Fruits: Apricots, apples, black berries, blue berries, boysenberries, bananas, cherries, cranberries, cantaloupe, dragon fruit, figs, grapes, grapefruit, guava, honeydew melons, kiwi, lime, lemons, mangoes, nectarines, peaches, pears, pineapples, papayas, plums, prunes, raspberries, raisins, strawberries, tangerines, tangelos, watermelon.

Nuts and Seeds Liquids: Drink 8 glasses of water daily, distilled water, spring water, 100% natural fruit or vegetable juice.

The Daniel Fast restricts normal food intake by eliminating many foods commonly eaten to satisfy our appetites. During the Daniel Fast you will experience a sense of hunger and a

sense of sacrifice. The Daniel Fast embodies a faith walk in which Daniel teaches us that commitment and sacrifice that honor God will transform our lives. Thinking

and acting with a worldly view may consume us with fear and doubt. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah overcame this worldly view by challenging the chief official of king Nebuchadnezzar. They refused to eat the King's food, choosing instead to adopt a diet of fruits, vegetables and water (Daniel 1). Daniel's experience provides us with a powerful lesson that spiritual fasting

and prayer empower us to seek after those things we deem impossible but are a reality when we walk with Christ! Simply, this journey is a

return to Eden, where fruits, vegetables and whole grains nourished the temple of God.

As an Individual I will ask God to…

Allow a greater filling of the Holy Spirit as the ‘Shift’ in my relationship in Christ grows Help me to develop a hunger and thirst for the things of Him Instill in me a personal revival of prayer and service Give me purpose and commitment to honor His “Temple Purpose in my spirit the study and application of His Word

Scripture for Reflection

“Be careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish,, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk, on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18

As a Family we will ask God to...

Help our family devote more time to fellowship as a unit Reveal His vision for our family through prayer and fasting Help our family to love, appreciate, respect and value one another Strengthen the bonds of matrimony between husband and wife Help our family to instill value and compassion in our children, ever increasing in the knowledge and understanding of Christ

Scripture for Reflection

“He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.” Acts 10:2

As a Church Family we will ask God to...

A maturing of Enon for a greater flow of the Holy Spirit Our human and financial resources within the church Cohesiveness among our leaders Better relationships among those in ministry Our congregation and visitors would have a God encounter when on our campus

Scripture for Reflection ‘Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20’

As a Community we will ask God to:

Reveal to us our “Cause/Fight” for our community with purpose to fulfill His will in accordance with His Word Allow us to inspire and respond to the needs of our community through civil action and awareness Instill in us a spirit of good stewardship of this “Earthly” home the Lord has given us Give us guidance as we educate, nurture, prepare and protect our children for their future of promise and abundant life Live God’s greatest command, “Treat thy neighbor as thyself” as we pray for the eradication of violence in our community

Scripture for Reflection ‘You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father’ Matthew 5:13-16
