We fondly welcome back our Pastoral Agent, Julie Cool to ministry. Julie will resume her invaluable work in support of both the Parish and Father Dan here in St. Mark’s this coming week. Much of the leadership, support and guidance she provides in faith formation and sacramental preparation have been invaluable over the years and we welcome her back with us as we move forward in renewal and prayer. Important: Weekly Mass Schedule as of Monday, March 9, 2015 During the remainder of Lent, Father Dan will say mass Mondays to Fridays at 9:00 a.m. until Holy Week. The schedule for Holy Week masses and services are posted further within this bulletin. “Why don’t we sing the Alleluia during Lent?

In some circles they even talk about it as burying the Alleluia. This is a fairly long practice. In the Middle Ages, faithful Christians would go to the parish cemetery before Lent began with an image bearing the word Alleluia and singing the word they carried. There the image would be buried, a vivid reminder that during the Lenten season we “fast” from this word which means “Praise the Lord”. We’ll sing it again at the most appropriate

time, namely at the Easter Vigil. There is something of our Christian faith in that gesture. We bury our dead; we enter into the fasting of Lent with the confidence that what has been deposited into the earth – our dead, our Alleluia – will rise again. The dead and risen Lord Jesus is the guarantee of that. (From ConcordPastor)

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE – Responding to the cry of the rural poor with the Bishops of Brazil

“In all places and circumstances, Christians, with the help of their pastors, are called to hear the cry of the poor. This has been eloquently stated by the bishops of Brazil: “We wish to take up daily the joys and hopes, the difficulties and sorrows of the Brazilian people, especially of those living in the barrios and the countryside – landless, homeless, lacking food and health care – to the detriment of their rights. Seeing their poverty, hearing their cries and knowing their sufferings, we are scandalized because we know that there is enough food for everyone and that hunger is the result of a poor distribution of goods and income.” — Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel, 191.

Development and Peace has been working with the Brazilian Bishops for many years to respond to the cry of the poor. Your generosity helps fund our partnership with their Pastoral Land Commission, which works to support the rural poor through agricultural development and land reform. You can learn more about our work by picking up Share Lent materials at the entrances of the Church or by visiting devp.org. The Share Lent collection for Development and Peace is on the Fifth Sunday of Lent, March 22nd. Stations of the Cross continue through to Friday, March 27th Each Friday during Lent beginning at 7:00 p.m. we will be making the Way of the Cross here at St. Mark’s. Please join us as we journey with Christ through His Passion. Hunger Meal During Lent, Development and Peace will offer a hunger meal on Fridays at 6:00 p.m. downstairs in the Hall before the Way of the Cross. This meal is offered to remind us of all those who are less fortunate than we and who hunger. Anything that you can contribute will be shared with those most in need through the Development and Peace organization. All are welcome to join. ‘Priest, Prophet, King – The New Evangelization’ Adult Faith Formation series Father Robert Barron’s ‘Priest, Prophet, King’ DVD series continues Tuesday evening 7:00-8:30 p.m. and continue on until Tuesday, March 17th in the basement hall. These interactive sessions include a DVD viewing followed by a short group discussion. Popcorn is provided. All are welcome!

For those who want to receive daily spiritual reflections during Lent, you can sign up for them for FREE at the following link: www.lentreflections.com or check the website: www.wordonfire.org Reminder Church Envelopes for 2015 There are still a number of donation envelope boxes remaining in the that have not yet been picked up.
