After completing the CPIM classes, I am able to see the supply chain world in a more comprehensive and

cohesive way. The instructors were wonderful; I gained so much knowledge in each class. I strongly believe that the interaction with

instructors and classmates was a huge help since I was able to listen to different personal experiences. I recommend it one hundred

percent; it is worth the time and effort! Brigitte Mendoza, Strategic Customer Supply Specialist, Boulder Brands

What are Students saying about APICS Education in Colorado?

“While I attended APICS classes, I was quick to realize the valuable resources being introduced. As a professional in the supply chain world, I was able to immediately apply a number of the topics presented by APICS to our day-to-day activities. APICS has set me apart from my peers, as I am now able to present ideas and tactics that are not readily understood by everyone. I am grateful for the knowledge I have received and am excited of the possibilities going forward” Dan Clement, Distribution Center Manger, Brewers Supply

”The APICS classes were the best way I could have studied for the CPIM testing. They were very

convenient to take while I worked, even during the busy part of the year. Eight hour classes may seem like a lot on a Saturday but the instructors are so energetic and dedicated to you understanding the material that the time flies by. By the end of each class I had a brand new understanding of concepts I wasn’t able to grasp by just using the study material alone. One of the coolest aspects of APICS was the community. The classroom consisted of peers from all different walks of life and job perspectives and the out of classroom activities introduced me to even more people of the APICS community.“ Aaron Littlefield, Manufacturing Engineer, Stolle Machinery Co

”I wanted the take the APICS CSCP certification to improve my understanding of the supply chain and increase my employment prospects. I discovered that I did several things well in my previous job, but I also learned so many new practices and ideas that I will be able to take with me to a new job. I completed my CSCP certification in 3 months and I thought that the classroom format worked very well with the five Saturday classes spread out over a few months, which allowed plenty of time for reading and study. Use of the online tools and resources, reading schedules, and chapter tests were also instrumental in my ability to successfully pass the exam and receive my CSCP certification. During the classes, the interaction with very knowledgeable instructors and fellow students from different industries was extremely interesting and edifying. They were more than willing to share their personal experiences and answer questions regarding the content of the class and how to put it in to practice in the real world. The Colorado Chapter’s high exam passing rate is a testament to the skill and passion of their instructors and their knowledge of the APICS Body of Knowledge. I am also taking the CPIM course and I would highly recommend it. These courses are valuable tools for greater success and advancing further in your career.“ John S. Wood, CSCP, Supply Chain Professional

“I enjoyed taking the CPIM classes through the local APICS Colorado Chapter 81. They offered me the

knowledge to pass the CPIM exam, and the tools to think strategically in my career. The instructors, as well as the students, had

knowledge in a breadth of industries allowing for real world examples to link textbook material to reality. There is no doubt the

APICS classes will enable me to advance my career in the supply chain industry.” Wynne Adams, CPIM, S&OP Demand Planner,

Boulder Brands

APICS FLASHBACK!

Recently a student brought a book to a CPIM class to show Roger Harris and see what he thought of it. This book was the

“Basics of Materials Management” course book that was written for the chapter in 1992-1993 before there was a basics

module of CPIM. This course was to prepare students for the CPIM program. Back then, Roger, Harris chaired a development group of Himself, Dianne Brown, Scott Malcolm, Garth Boyd, Bob Lea and Jordan Mossy who each wrote one

or two chapters of this book for the chapter. Then to pilot the course, each person taught the chapters that they had written. Prior to the creation of a Basics certification module of CPIM, the Colorado Chapter sold many thousands of these

books to other chapters to teach the course, as well as had 100’s of Colorado students in the course. Apparently one

student kept his notes and this book for reference materials. This book/course certainly helped many careers progress.

New to Apics Colorado Chapter 81? Professional development meetings are made available to members and non-members monthly from September through November and January through May each fiscal year. They are usually held on

the 2nd Wednesday of the month at varying locations in the greater Denver metro-area. Look for the fall calendar later this summer and:

http://apicscolorado.org for details.

Networking Tips!

Networking may be described as ‘a business activity by where people meet to form relationships and to recognize, create, or act upon opportunities, share information and/or seek potential partners’. Below are some seven timely networking

tips.

1. Make eye contact Hint - You should be able to remember the eye color of the person you just met.

2. Listen more – Talk less

Hint - A networking essential, impress someone by showing your interest in them.

3. Smile

Hint - Be genuine, a welcoming smile goes a long way.

4. Firm handshake

Hint - It's not a contest, don’t turn it into a wrestling match.

5. Elevator speech Hint - This is your brief response if someone asks "what do you do”.

6. Always Have Business Cards

Hint - This is part of your brand.

7. Practice

Hint - Attend the Summer Networking event and plan on more interesting and informative Professional Development Meetings starting this fall. See you there.
