Alumni SpotlightSara Akramy thought getting a degree in Health Science at NHTI would be easy. “I had taken Advanced Placement classes in high school,” she says. “I thought college would be just more of the same. I was wrong.” Sara reorganized her priorities to focus on academics, and graduated from NHTI in 2014. She went on to Granite State College for a bachelor’s in Psychology, and is now working toward becoming a physician assistant. “NHTI has so many opportunities,” says Sara. “It’s a great place to start, a great stepping stone.”

Family SpotlightFor Sherry Thomas, NHTI is a family affair. Her daughter attended NHTI and had a great experience. Sherry says, “The value of the education at NHTI is its applicability to the real world.” She should know, having taken a few classes herself at NHTI’s non-credit Business Training Center. “The professor was really good, engaging, enthusiastic,” she recalls. Even her grandson has been a student in NHTI’s Visual Arts program. Sherry says, “NHTI is flexible, offering courses evenings, weekends, and online. Can’t find quite what you need? NHTI will help you!”

Why Choose NHTI?Accessible• Access to Opportunity. NHTI has 90+ academic programs, student

leadership, service learning and community service opportunities, and one of the lowest tuitions in New Hampshire.

• Academic Support. NHTI offers services to support students in achieving their educational goals, including tutoring in the Math lab and Writing Center, assisting eligible students to accommodate disabilities through the Office of Accessibility Services, and ESOL tutoring and support services to help non-native speakers develop English Language proficiency.

• Scheduling Flexibility. NHTI recognizes that some students cannot attend traditional daytime classes. That’s why we offer Day, Evening, Hybrid and Online classes. NHTI has six degrees and six certificate programs available 100% online.

AffordableThere’s no doubt about it, college is expensive. NHTI has the lowest tuition and room and board among public educational institutions in NH. At graduation our students can begin jobs or transfer to 4-year educational institutions knowing they saved money.

Career and Transfer PathwaysMany of NHTI’s degree and certificate programs are designed to prepare graduates to directly enter the workforce, and include internships and practica that allow students to gain real-world experience. Students also choose to continue their studies by transferring to a 4-year college or university, and NHTI has many transfer pathway programs in place to make the transition easier.

Full Campus ExperienceWith over 30 student organizations, 11 men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic teams, intramurals, on-campus residence halls, and a thriving campus community, NHTI offers a broad spectrum of opportunities and resources to enhance the college experience.

Academic ExcellenceDean’s List/Scholastic HonorsA Dean’s List is published at the end of each semester. All full-time students, enrolled in an academic program, whose Grade Point Average (GPA) for that semester is 3.3 or higher qualify to be on the Dean’s List. Students who achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.3 to 3.69 graduate with honors, and those who achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher graduate with high honors. Cumulative GPA is calculated using all courses completed at NHTI.

Honors CoursesHonors courses offer academically strong, highly motivated students the opportunity to learn in smaller classes with a stimulating and creative environment that promotes active engagement with subject matter, and allows for a rigorous and individualized approach to learning.

Phi Theta Kappa - International Honor SocietyAcademic excellence is the primary hallmark of Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is the largest International Honor Society in American higher education with more than 2 million members and over 1,200 chapters internationally. The Alpha Upsilon Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa has been established to provide opportunities for scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship for Phi Theta Kappa students at NHTI, while providing an intellectual climate for continued academic excellence.

Vice President’s Award for Academic ExcellenceThe Vice President’s Award for Academic Excellence is presented each year at the May Commencement to the student(s) achieving the highest overall cumulative Grade Point Average in the graduating class.

Living on Campus

Residence LifeResidence living is an integral part of the total educational experience at NHTI. Every effort is made to provide a safe, secure and clean living environment conducive to the academic and personal development of the student. NHTI has three coeducational residence halls housing a total of 350 students. Each hall has a full-time professional Residence Director and a staff of Resident Assistants. The resident assistant staff is selected from successful students and receives training in all areas of student development from fire and safety concerns to peer counseling. Assignment to a residence hall is open, based on space availability, to students carrying an academic load of at least nine (9) credits. For details visit nhti.edu/student-life/residence-life

Career ResourcesWhether you’re looking to choose a college major or career direction, reality test your career interests, or seek out employment opportunities, NHTI offers a number of resources to help you make your way.

College Major & Career DecisionsResearch shows that up to 80% of entering college students say they’re not certain about their choice of a college major even if they initially declared a major…and up to 50% of college students change their major at least once prior to graduation, with some changing their major more than once. Bottom line . . . it’s normal for students to be uncertain about their choice of a college major.

What Can I do with my Major?Career planning guides will introduce you to possible career paths, skills, sample employers, and career related resources for each NHTI major/degree program.

Exploring Your Career InterestsSometimes we can have a vision of what it’s like to work in a certain career field but that vision might not match the reality of the work. Whether you have a vision or not, wouldn’t you rather know what you’re getting into before putting tons of time and energy (and money) into a career interest?

NHTI Job BoardNHTI has an online job board available to NHTI students, alumni and the general public. This FREE site provides job postings and a wide range of career services.

When Tim Near was a Mechanical Engineering Technology student at NHTI, he had an internship with a company specializing in the design and manufacture of dynamometers. After graduation, Tim continued working at the firm and in time became its lead engineer.

But Tim had other dreams, and in 2017 he opened his own company, designing wearable devices meant to provide the average person with Olympic-level physical abilities.

Tim says, “NHTI’s small class sizes and hands-on teaching approach helped prepare me for success in the real world.”

Pathways and Partnerships to 4-year DegreesDual Admission with University System of New HampshireEnrolling at NHTI is the first step toward earning two degrees through the New Hampshire Dual Admission Program. This provides a seamless academic pathway from NHTI to one of the four members of the University System of NH (USNH). Complete your associate degree at NHTI before transitioning to one of the members of the USNH to complete your bachelor’s degree. While working toward your associate and bachelor’s degree at the same time, you will receive special academic advising and enjoy campus activities at two colleges. Admission to the USNH is guaranteed by maintaining a 2.5 grade point average and earning your associate degree, while remaining in good standing. Only certain majors qualify, and courses in which you earn a C or better will transfer. It is important to consult with an academic advisor.

Dual Admission with SNHUFor students interested in going on for a bachelor’s degree after they graduate, NHTI and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) have partnered in a new dual admission agreement that can make transfer to a bachelor’s degree program a virtually seamless process. Under the new agreement, students who have been accepted into a degree program at NHTI can apply for dual admission to SNHU at any time. Acceptance is guaranteed provided the student successfully completes his or her associate degree at NHTI with a 2.0 or better GPA, and remains in good academic and disciplinary standing. SNHU will accept up to 90 credits from NHTI toward the student’s bachelor’s degree. (Only course work with a C- grade or better is transferrable.) Since NHTI’s tuition is significantly lower than SNHU’s, a student who transferred the full 90 credits would save over $10,000 at current rates!

Multiple Transfer PathwaysWe have developed many pathways and partnerships to assist you in continuing beyond NHTI to a four-year degree. Students in specific academic programs often work directly with their department heads or academic advisors when going through the transfer process. We have secured Transfer Agreements with many four-year colleges and universities to make the process as easy as possible. A complete list of these agreements is available on our web site. For more information about Transfer Pathways and Partnerships visit nhti.edu/academics/transferring-other-institutions or contact the NHTI Admissions Office.
