I’d like to tell you about what Lutheran Social Services of the South West (LSS-SW) is doing. Sev-eral months ago, I volunteered for a Work Day, sponsored by Thrivent and LSS-SW. We put together kits of household cleaning supplies benefiting the aging and disabled. I even got a volunteer t-shirt.

Four areas that LSS-SW serves: Ag-ing & Disability Services, Children & Family Services (Foster Care), Refu-gee & Immigration Services, and Emergency Services (hunger & home-lessness).

Simple Ways to Change the World from LSS-SSW

Donate your old vehicle. Cars are especially appreciated by newly ar-rived refugees with new jobs and often long commutes on public trans-portation. Email [email protected] for details.

Write a birthday card for a senior. Make or purchase a birthday card for an older adult in our Aging & Disability Services. Send your cards to LSS-SW, Fund Development, 10201 S. 51st Street, Suite 180, Phoenix, AZ 85020. Including an extra stamp is also appreciated.

Volunteer. Every year, LSS-SW relies on the gifts and talents of thou-sands of people just like you to carry out our mission.

Be a good neighbor. Ask a neighbor like an older adult or single parent if you can pick-up their groceries, clean the yard, or just stop by for friendly conversation.

Purchase items from our Women's Empowerment Program. Support a refugee woman who is furthering herself and her family by purchasing a handmade item she has made.

Send a care package to a foster youth. Oftentimes, teens in our foster program are overlooked or receive donations intended for younger chil-dren.
