CELEBRATING HANUKKAH!The Holidays began early in Laredo

for Joshua Druker, son Uriel, daughter-in-law Susie & grandsons, Ryan, Ari & Noah. One candle a day was lit for 8 days, to celebrate the 8-day supply of oil which was available when the Holy Land was retaken by a

small band of faithful Jews!(More than 21 centuries ago)!

It’s hard enough to lose a loved one, but more so this close to Christmas! Mrs. Gloria Soto

Vasquez, mom of five children & grandmother of 10 grandchildren passed away on December 4th

after a long illness. She is missed greatly by husband

Carlos, a Marine veteran, all her many relatives, & especially by

daughter Laura Farias & her family. Laura is the widow of

Guillermo Farias; their children are Sara, Fabian, Olivia &

Sophie; Fabian’s son Liam was one of Mrs. Vasquez’ 8 great-

grandchildren.

Still another Farias relative who passed away recently was Mrs.

Julieta Farias Staggs. After a long struggle w/Alzheimer’s Disease,

Mrs. Staggs passed away on October 1, 2015. Mrs. Staggs was the wife of Frank Staggs, Sr.; their children are Frank, Jr., & Raul C. Staggs. As described in George Farias’ “The Farias Chronicles,”

Mrs. Staggs was a native Laredoan & descendant of early settlers of

Cd. Guerrero, Tamx, Mx, and of the founder of Laredo, Don Tomas

Sanchez. Among other accomplishments, Mrs. Staggs

portrayed Martha Washington in 1985 in Laredo’s Colonial Ball.

Mentioned previously was Charles Thomas Wood, the father of Brad Wood, & Laura

(DeWall) Wood’s father-in-law.

. Tom was a Marine veteran & Vice

President at Mutual of Omaha, where he

worked for 35 years! Mr. Wood passed

away on November 3rd & is missed

especially by his look-a-like grandson,

Britton Wood, as well as his 3 sons & 9

other grandchildren!

So very sorry to hear that this beautiful

young couple, Ricardo & Christina Farias, are again going through

the loss of a child….as they did a year ago at this time! Our sincere

condolences!

And let us not forget the reason for the season: In Bethlehem, Mary’s boy

child, Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day!
