You are receiving this letter because you have indicated you would like to receive project updates from the Carson National Forest. Decision After thoroughly considering the Proposed Action and the No Action Alternatives, analyses presented in the EA, as well as public comments that were received, I have decided to select and approve Alternative 2- the Proposed Action from the EA. My decision meets the project's purpose and need and is consistent with the 1986 Forest Plan and other applicable laws and regulations. The project will amend Red River Ski Area's (RRSA) special use permit (SUP) to include multi-season improvement projects from the 2014 accepted Master Development Plan (MDP). The multi-season project consists of ski trail grading and widening to improve access and skier flow; construction of terrain features and installation of additional snowmaking infrastructure to improve snowmaking efficiency; development of 12 acres of additional gladed skiing; and construction of an interpretive hiking trail and mountain biking trail to expand multi-season recreation opportunities. All of the project components are contained within RRSA's existing SUP area, which is administered by the Carson National Forest, or on lands owned by RRSA. Red River Ski Area is required to adhere to all project design criteria (PDC) identified in chapter 2 of the EA. The ski area is located in the Town of Red River, New Mexico. Project activities will occur in sections 1 and 2 of Township 28 North, Range 14 East, and in section 35 of Township 29 North, Range 14 East, New Mexico Principal Meridian. Full details are available in the DN/FONSI and in the EA which are available online at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/proiect/?proiect=48878. These documents and supporting documentation are also available upon request at the Carson National Forest Supervisor's Office at 208 Cruz Alta Road, Taos, NM, or at the Questa Ranger District Office at 184 State Route 38, Questa, NM.
