MPTA Members have a Blast at
Elko Speedway “Once again the MPTA’s Eve of Destruction didn’t disappoint”
This past July marks the fourth time the MPTA has hosted and spon-
sored its annual picnic at Elko Speedway. Over 150 MPTA towing
members, friends and family attended this perfect evening of fun and
excitement. The evening began with towing members displaying their
trucks and equipment out on the plaza for the crowds of people to view.
Around 5:30, a buffet style meal of Hamburgers and Hot dogs with all
the fixings was served along with a live 50/50 raffle, raising $480 for
the Spirit Ride. Congratulations to the Schmidt Towing Service team!
Pooling their funds buying raffle tickets wining a cool $480 in cash.
Our towing members have the biggest hearts! Soon after, the Schmidt
Towing Service team donated $100 back to the Spirit Ride as Stillwater
Towing also contributed another $100- raising a total of $680 for the
Spirit Ride. For information about the Spirit Ride, visit www.
atspiritride.com.
Towing members and families were also treated to several $50 and $20
cash prize drawings from the MPTA and its sponsors as many kiddos
were given DQ gift cards given. This was just the beginning!
MPTA members led the “parade lap” out on the track with their wreck-
ers dressed up in American flags, lights flashing as race fans cheered on
our members. With many events including live racing and other activi-
ties as the “Eve of Destruction” was under way as Elko Speedway didn’t
disappoint.

The highlight of the evening was the spectator drags, or shall I say, “the demo derby”? Eight MPTA towing members
brought their own cars to track testing their skills and testosterone. Special thanks to those for taking the time bring-
ing a car to the track and giving the crows a heck of show!
From what I am hearing, MPTA members and guests had great time. If you missed the MPTA Annual Picnic at Elko
Speedway this year, you will have to attend next year to see how we can top this past year’s event.

Nineteen PA Billboards Donated to Spirit Ride
Nineteen highway billboards are going up in the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania, courtesy of Lamar Adver-
tising. The generous gift is made in respect to Duchnick's Towing of Scott Township, Pennsylvania. Duch-
nick is hosting a Spirit Ride event on September 23rd.
Tom Donahue, GM of Lamar Advertising, said he was pleased to be able to slot the Spirit Ride Move-Over
billboard message into nineteen locations that garner over 600,000 impressions weekly. The Move-Over bill-
board will reach the eyes of over one million motorists in September. Donahue said he will keep giving ex-
posure to Move-Over as he is able to do so.
The American Towman Spirit Ride's mission is creating public awareness of the Slow Down, Mover Over
law that exists in every state of the Union. – Tow Industry Week
Beware of “Fake” MPTA Solicitors”
Seems like most of us receive unwanted solicited phone calls, emails or visits. Special thanks to Dan from
Dan’s Complete Automotive Care for alerting the MPTA on the most recent “unwanted” solicitor. A individ-
ual by the name of “Bill” from Advanced Supply called Dan’s saying the MPTA gave them the members
phone numbers and recommended Advanced Supply sell our members a rust inhibitor. When Dan said he
wasn’t interested, the man named “Bill” turned on Dan and began calling him nasty names.
Just as a side note, the MPTA doesn’t share your contact information unless they are a member of the MPTA.
Thanks again to Dan for alerting the MPTA and its members about this fake MPTA solicitor. Your loyalty to
the MPTA is very much appreciated. I guess we need to be aware of everything these days!

Analysis: U.S. Retail Fuel Markets See Paradox in Supply
Run-Outs on Storm
MPTA members may continue to see higher fuel prices in the next coming months. A major storm would have a
significant impact on U.S. refinery production and fuel supply, but a confluence of other factors are further con-
stricting supplies to the point of run-outs at the retail pumps.
Panic buying sprees at the retail stations, strict supply allocations at wholesale terminals, a lack of drivers and
equipment, state emergency orders and social media frenzy put significant pressure on the fuel distribution system
from the refinery to the retail pumps as seen in Texas in the past two
weeks. Panic buying ahead of the Hurricane Harvey is a major factor contributing to supply outs. The supply
crunch then led to a significant increase in retail fuel prices as refined fuels are distributed from the north.
The states of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina are expected to see the similar fuel supply issues and supply run-
outs experienced in Texas as Hurricane Irma approaches the Southeast region.
The Southeast region is already seeing panic buying ahead of Irma, with some people buying for storage and some
for evacuation. Residents in the path of the storm are advised cities to fill up their cars and tanks as an emergency
precaution. This tightens the supply in the storm-affected markets.
However, the storm impact on fuel supplies is far reaching than just the immediate markets in the storm's path.
As seen in Texas, Corpus Christi, Houston and Port Arthur were hit by Hurricane Harvey, creating supply issues in
those markets. However, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio and other areas have also seen a rush to fill up gas tanks
due to fear of potential supply outs.
In the Southeast, Irma is expected to reach Miami on Sunday and possibly up the coasts of Georgia and South Car-
olina. The tight supply issue is expected to spread to inland markets in the Southeast, possibly adding more pres-
sure on the already constrained Colonial Pipeline, which is playing catch-up with deliveries. Colonial Pipeline does
not serve Florida directly, but it delivers fuel into Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
OPIS reported on Wednesday that the panic buying at Florida retail pumps began on Tuesday, and the spike in re-
tail demand is expected to continue to rise ahead of the storm's possible arrival on Sunday. Many retailers are al-
ready out of fuel in Florida due to a supply run by drivers and the inability to pull resupplies from wholesale termi-
nals. Many unbranded customers are facing supply
allocations or have been cut off as fuel suppliers prioritize their branded customers over unbranded amid a tighten-
ing supply
Also, the scramble for supply is evident in the shifting rack pricing dynamics in Florida. The rack markets in Flori-
da are seeing a sharp price inversion for branded and unbranded prices at about 14cts/gal, with unbranded being
substantially more expensive than branded.
Panic Mode
Panic buying could cause retail fuel demand to increase three to five times the normal demand, a retailer told OPIS.
When this happens, inventories at the terminals are quickly depleted or the terminals put everyone on allocations to
avoid running out completely.
The supply issue could be minimized if people conserve fuel and not hoard fuel
in their gas tanks or in canisters. The biggest fuel storage in Texas in the past two weeks was in the cars.
(continued on page 10)
MPTA Newsbreak ~ August 2017 10
(continued from page 9)
Panic buying sprees were seen across the state of Texas from Corpus Christi to Dallas/Fort Worth. The Dallas/Fort Worth
market, which was not directly impacted by Hurricane Harvey, saw a rush to fill up at the pumps last week, mostly based on
unfounded fear of supply run-outs.
OPIS notes a paradox in the supply run-outs, especially in Dallas/Fort Worth, as people rushed to the pumps to fill up and
keep their gas tanks full at all times because of concerns about running out of fuel. However, drivers unwittingly make their
unfound concerns a reality.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and some fuel distributors had said that Texas does not have fuel supply shortage, but the state has
a distribution problem.
Houston distributors have flown in truck drivers from other states as far as Michigan to deliver fuel. A sharp increase in de-
mand is not helping this manpower issue during a crisis.
Industry sources said that truck and driver availability has been tight across the country, and this resource base cannot han-
dle a 300% increase in demand in 48 hours. The retailer said he had to pay $3,500 a day to get trucks from Chicago to de-
liver fuel from Chicago and Indianapolis into Tennessee, Texas, and Alabama.
"There might be inventory in the system but it may not be available because the terminal won't release it or there are no
trucks and drivers to haul it," the retailer said.
As seen in Texas in the past two weeks and now Florida, terminals are allocating fuel supplies as suppliers prioritize supply
commitments to their branded customer over their unbranded ones. Unbranded customers could face reduced supplies or
have their supplies completely cut-off. Major retailers typically have a portfolio of both branded and unbranded supplies to
ensure at least some barrels during an emergency.
There is a time lag of getting resupplies to the pumps after the buying sprees emptied some retail stations. Following the
resupplies, retailers could be stuck with overpriced inventory as demand falls, some sources said.
They said that history repeats itself in the U.S. retail fuel markets in response to major storms. Could take a while for prices
to come down if they come down.
Electronic Log Devices (By Sally Anderson)
With the new mandate in place by the FMCSA that states all carriers will need to use an ELD (electronic log device) for computing and re-
cording hours of service/mileage by December 18, 2017, I would like to introduce a very reputable program and company that I am working
directly with.
HOS247 was developed, implemented and received their certification from the FMCSA. This program can handle all your ELD needs for
your company and more. With a very user -friendly interface, great customer service should you have questions, along with the option to
pick from multiple plans, this program is in my mind the one to go with.
Dzmitry has been generous to offer a 10% discount to all Road Ready Consulting clients that that sign up on ANY of the plans offered. Use
code SALLY2017 to receive this discount.
I've attached some information to this email or check out the webpage at hos27.com. Please also feel free to contact Dzmitry at
[email protected] and he would be more than happy to assist.
Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone else that may be looking for an ELD as well.
