OppOrTuniTies Of A lifeTime HigHligHTs & suCCessesCameron M. Champ from Sacramento, CA: Currently is a junior at Rocklin Independent Studies. He maintains a 3.52 GPA while competing in several local and national tournaments. Cameron demonstrated his prowess at the 13th Annual Bill Dickey Invitational (BDI) Junior Golf Championship hosted at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, GA, in June 2012. He won the BDI championship and received an exemption into the PGA of America Junior Championship, where he finished second, which qualified him for the 2012 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup. He is the first BDSA junior golfer to make the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team. Cameron’s future plans are to attend Texas A& M University on a golf scholarship, complete his education and then pursue a career as a touring golf professional.

The Bill Dickey Scholarship Association (BDSA) (formerly known as the National Minority Junior Golf Scholarship Association) was incorporated in 1984 as a 501 (C) (3) organization with its headquarters in Phoenix, AZ. The association was developed to address the need for a national organiza-tion to promote junior golf development, enabling minority youth to receive exposure to the fundamentals and life skills associated with the game. The founder and president emeritus, William “Bill” Dickey is the ambassador for youth promoting the game of golf and academic excellence.

Sheldon Early from Greer, SC: received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Accounting from Furman University in 2012, graduating with honors. “The Bill Dickey Scholarship Association opened many doors for me as I entered my under-graduate college career, enabling me to receive a scholarship from the MARCH FOUNDATION – one of the BDSA’s scholarship partners. Through the education I was able to obtain at Furman University, I am able to continue on to the Uni-versity of Notre Dame to pursue a Master of Science Accountancy in Tax Services. I gained an understanding that it is now my future responsibility to provide a platform for the success of other students like myself to further their own education, as well as provide opportunities for them to display their talents. I hope that I have begun to repay the investment that everyone has made in me by obtaining the best education possible. The scholarship has given me the desire to one day move from being a recipient to being a scholarship provider in such a great organization.”

Sydnee Mack from Las Vegas, NV: As a three time BDI alumnus and BDSA scholarship recipient, golf has been a huge factor in Sydnee Mack’s life and a large contributor to her professional and academic success. Mack graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hampton University this past May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations with minors in Leadership Studies and Pre-Law. During her time at Hampton, Mack achieved both academic and professional success as evidenced through various scholarships she was awarded totaling $80,000 towards her legal education. In addition to her stellar scho-lastic performance, Mack was also a valued member of the Women’s Golf Team and played all four years on a full athletic scholarship. In her senior year she was awarded Athletic-Academic Female Athlete of the Year by the Hampton University Athletic Department. This fall, Mack began her law career by attending Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mariah Stackhouse from Riverdale, GA: graduated in 2012 from North Clayton High School with a 4.08 GPA. Mariah competed in over 188 tournaments, with over 97 wins and 169 top 10 finishes. Some of her major accomplishments include the Georgia State Golf Association three - time champion, the 2009 Girls’ Player of the Year, American Junior Golf Associa-tion (AJGA) All American First Team and the youngest female golfer to win the Bill Dickey Invitational Junior Golf Champion-ship (BDI). She holds two BDI championship titles. Mariah is a Bill Dickey Scholarship Association scholar who was awarded a PGA of America scholarship for the 2012-2013 school year. In Fall of 2012, she enrolled at Stanford University and is a member of the Lady Cardinal Golf Team. “I look forward to the beginning of my college career and using this opportunity to develop my skills for the LPGA. I plan on majoring in economics with a focus on management and marketing. There are so many possibilities for the future.”
