Day 1

1 A Introducing ourselves

Audience will be explained about the topics that would be covered for the day.

They will be teamed into two groups. Both groups will cover all topics, however the depth of the course will correspond to their group level.

1 B Assessment We will assess the audience and divide them into two groups

Beginners and Novices Intermediate and above

Groups will be divided on the basis of a practical test or a questionnaire

Practical test: If total number is small, they will be asked to complete exercises involving but not limited to file types, e-mail, searching information online, computing commands and AV programs.

Questionnaire: If total number of people is large, they will be given a questionnaire that tests their knowledge on but not limited to file types, e-mail, searching information online, computing commands and AV programs.

2 File types and applications

It’s essential to know which applications are available and which ones are associated with different file types.

Outcome: Be able to identify which application to use/open for making/editing a certain file. This session will help them become aware of what files they download from the internet.

3 E-mailing What virtually drives all formal electronic communication is e-mail. It's safe and quick. There are many popular e-mail service providers for free and they come with a range of other benefits (free storage, chat, etc.).

4 Getting information online

With the internet, accessing information is just a few clicks away. This can immensely help the teacher to expand his/her own knowledge and share it with the students.

5 Accessing teacher resources online

This instruction is for you the course creator, not the audience. Do a Google search &Create a list of websites that are teacher centric..free sites from where teachers can get content for classroom

6 Computing & Commands

Keeping files organized inside the system helps improve efficiency. Certain directories are specialized for certain file types. Also one can do several tasks with the help of keyboard commands.

1) Run the task manager2) Create folders and shortcuts3) Run command4) Search in the system

Outcome: Use the task manager to open or close tasks, make folders as directories and the run command effectively.

7 Anti-virus Many times, unintentionally, harmful files enter the system either by downloading corrupt files or through USB’s. An anti-virus program can help protect the computer. We can also check if a file is safe to use using online antivirus programs.

1) Get/Use an antivirus (explore a free AV program) 2) Scan USB drives and the computer3) Using VirusTotal to scan a file online

Outcome: Users will now learn about the need and use of an antivirus program and will learn about Avira, one of the top rated anti-virus programs available free of cost.

1 A Recollecting Recalling what we did yesterday and also explain about the topics that would be covered for the day.

2 Word MS Word is a program which can handle text documents from very simple posts to intricate posts.

Outcome: To be able to use MS Word effectively for creating and sharing text documents.

3 PowerPoint PowerPoint is widely used to present an idea and assist people when delivering a talk/lecture, its power lies in its versatility.

1) How to create, copy, duplicate, cut and change the theme for slides

Outcome: To be able to use PowerPoint effectively and make presentations for topics that require extra attention.

4 Excel When it comes to crunching numbers and data, there is only little excel cannot do.

5 Better alternatives to file sharing and Google Drive

E-mail only offers only basic file sharing - they have size limits and one may face difficulties sending it to a large number of people. Cloud storage is convenient, easily accessible and offers solutions for what email file sharing cannot do.

Outcome: Use resources like Google Drive to sync files and keep them save and accessible from anywhere. Use hosting sites to upload large files and share.

2 Test sites and forms for questionnaire

Tests conducted regularly in traditional paper-pen format take up lot of resources and effort to grade them. There are dedicated online sites which can be used for testing and instantly grade answers. One can also use Google forms by customizing settings to mimic that of a test. These are best suited for MCQ tests.
