Job Point South sponsored a hole at the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce golf tournament.
We embarked on our sixth annual campaign, raising nearly $113,000 in private contributions.
Columbia’s City Council awarded Job Point $24,000 to further our Affordable Housing Development Initiative, and an additional $120,000 through Neighborhood Stabilization funds. In combination with construction loans, these grants allowed Job Point to build two and renovate one single-family home in Columbia’s Ward 1, with participants enrolled in our YouthBuild program completing the work.
Job Point served as a site for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), providing tax preparation for students and families with moderate income.
In the spirit of community, Job Point staff organized teams for the 2010 Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl-A-Thon for the fifteenth consecutive year, volunteered with the Show-Me State Games for the eleventh consecutive year and participated in fundraising for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the fifth year in a row.
Columbia’s Celebrity Apprentice, Stephanie Flakne, was crowned at Job Point’s inaugural fundraiser emceed by Fred “The Boss” Parry. The event, sponsored by DeSpain Cayce Dermatology Center & Medical Spa, featured 16 contestants in four teams, raised community awareness and grossed $25,000 for Job Point.
2010 Accomplishments
Missy Dunegan and Rhonda Matthews were honored as the Award of Excellence recipients.
Job Point welcomed President and Chief Executive Officer, Jim Loveless, in
May. Mr. Loveless brings to Job Point 32 years of exemplary leadership experience.
Becky Curry-Roe, Senior Advisor, is Job Point’s 2010 Employee of the Year.
KOMU 8 served as the Title Sponsor for our Annual Awards Banquet and Shelter Insurance Companies, the Award of Excellence sponsor.
CiCi’s Pizza was selected as Employer of the Year, and Services for Independent Living was honored as Partner of the Year.
Job Point was a beneficiary of Greek Week grant funds and paired with Kappa Kappa Gamma for the annual celebration activities at the University of Missouri. Funds provide food, physicals and emergency financial assistance for students enrolled in construction and office technology classes.
Our allocation from the Heart of Missouri United Way equaled $106,774. United Way dollars are utilized to match a federal job placement grant for people with disabilities, operating expenses of our Job Works program for individuals who are chronically unemployed and job search assistance for YouthBuild participants.
Job Point once again achieved Pacesetter status in its internal United Way employee campaign, with a 22% increase in donations over last year. Staff also participated in the speakers bureau for the Heart of Missouri United Way community campaign, which exceeded its fundraising goal.
