To study the existing process of reverse logistics that is being followed in the Lifestyle departmental store, Malad west branch and based on the findings of the study suggest methods of improvement if any which could help the store reduce the cost attached to the return of goods.
The project also includes a study of the various brands and products that provided by the store in an attempt to find out the brands and products that are most vulnerable to the influence of reverse logistics inefficiencies.
‘Logistics Summit 2012’ report states that cost of logistics in India is as high as 14-15% of GDP (approx $277 billion)
Market size of Indian Reverse Logistics is approximately 5% of cost of Logistics (approx $12-15 billion)
Varying from industry to industry, return rates range from around 3% to as high as 50% of total shipments. The average retail store has about a 6% return rate.
Hence it is necessary to in order to control the cost attached with return of goods.
