Introduction
• Someone having authority over you can be positive, but is often a negative in our society
• Authority cannot be claimed; it must be bestowed
• Two important questions: (1) What is your authority?; (2) Who gave it to you?

From Where Did Jesus’ Authority Come (Mar 11:27-33)
• Questioners were Pharisees & Saducees• By what authority and Who gave it to you?• Two types of rabbis
– Torah teachers (lawyers) and scribes – did not interpret scripture– Rabbis with authority – had own interpretation of scripture,
mighty in prayer, ascribed miracles;– Rabbi with authority received authority from laying on of hands
of 2 rabbis with authority

From Where Did Jesus’ Authority Come (Mar 11:27-33)
• Jesus answers question w/ a question – very rabbinical.
• The question leads you to the answer• What does Jesus’ question about John lead you
to regarding His answer on authority?• John 1:22-27• Q&A technique was refused so Jesus moves to
rabbi technique #2 – a parable.
