State-of-the-Art Technology Designedfor High-Standard Products
fatty esters and ethers. By 1999, a state-of-the-art technology was installed for theproduction of fatty esters and other chem-ical specialities derived from vegetableraw materials.Longtime R&D experience combined withadditional synergies from global oleochem-istry allows DHW to present itself as astrong and reliable partner for industrialcooperation. DHW in Rodleben offers tai-lor-made oleochemical derivatives, whichare used in the production of nutritional pro-ducts, cosmetic and pharmaceutical goodsas well as additives for industrial purposes.
Progress from Nature
Over the years, as worldwide aware-
ness for environmental issues have
grown, gentle processing technologies
and the use of renewable resources
have become increasingly important.
Our technological expertise making
use of natural ingredients for the pro-
duction of chemical substances quali-
fies DHW at Rodleben to fulfill its obli-
gations in meeting the requirements
for a sustainable, ecologically-sound
world.
The concept of a chemical production
site based on human needs and envi-
ronmental awareness is already reality
within our company today.
Ester, Ether, Sugar Derivatives
and Other Specialities
By 1931, Deutsche Hydrierwerke (DHW)in Rodleben/Germany patented and initi-ated the world’s first production of fatty al-cohols based on the evolving technologyof catalytic, high pressure hydrogenation.Today this important development in che-mical processing still influences our lifes.Industries such as food & nutrition, deter-gents and toiletries, cosmetics andpharmaceuticals as well as other industri-al processes rely on these oleochemistrybranch achievements. The experiences of DHW in hydro-genation technology for manufacturing fatty and sugar alcohols were the funda-mentals for the ensuing „cascade“ of chem-ical modifications leading to the develop-ment of esters, ethers, sugar derivativesand other chemical specialities. Applica-tions of all these products are as diverseas the products themselves being used asemulsifiers, surface active agents, chem-ical modifiers, consistency promoters, moisturizers, emollients, lubricants or chemical intermediates. In 1991, DHW was incorporated into theworldwide network of research and pro-duction facilities of our oleochemicalsGroup. With the creation of Ecogreen Oleo-chemicals in 2001, DHW reinforced its po-sition as a global producer and supplier ofunsaturated fatty alcohols, primary fattyamines, sorbitols and other sugar alcoholsas well as of a new range of speciality

A Solution for Your Application
Our ester product line includes differentclasses such as wax, glycerol, sorbitanand speciality esters. All are producedstarting from 100% renewable,vegetable-derived sources such as palmoil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, rapeseedoil... Through their different functions andeffects, our esters can be used in a broadvariety of different industrial applications. Some of them act as nonionic surfactantsenabling the formulation of water-in-oil(W/O) or oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions incosmetic and pharmaceutical goods andothers provide outstanding sensory orstabilizing properties for many productsin the nutritional sector. Through theiraddition, various industrial manufacturingprocesses such as polymer processingor oil recovery can be simplifiedconsiderably.
Unique in Variety: Esters Made in Rodleben
Properties like lubrication, mould release, consistency promotion, emolliency, stability enhancement, spreading orfatting, solvency and cleaningdemonstrate the large variety offunctions offered by these uniqueproducts.
The products of the Romulgin range, specifically designed for use in healthfood, food stuffs and feed formulationsin addition to confectionery and sweetsproduction comply with the latest versionof the specific regulations such as FDA, FAO/WHO or EU. Corresponding Kosher Certificates as well as Certifica-tes of Analysis can be provided for theindividual products of the Romulgin range.
Through our interdisciplinary approachin different applications and the long-lasting production expertise of our teamsat DHW, we continuously develop newspeciality products finding new effectsand new areas of use. If you think offurther needs, e.g. an effect you look foror a new product you want to test, pleasecontact us... we will make it happen!

Functions and ApplicationsThe sorbitan esters of the Romulginrange are W/O emulsifiers anddispersants acting additionally asaerating agents and anti-staling aids. They improve volume and texture ofbakery products, ice creams, fillings andwhipped toppings. They give stabilityand dryness to ice creams and icings.
Specifically, Romulgin SMS improvesthe viability, drying, gassing power anddispersibility of Instant Active Dry Yeast(IADY). As a W/O emulsifier, Romulgin SMSprevents the oiling off and supports the dispersion of coffee whiteners. The sorbitan esters of the Romulgin
