MINISTRY MINUTES
Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein
Jesus opened the minds of the disciples to understand the Scriptures and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in His name to all the nations. With that in mind, I would like to share this prayer for my reflection. It is from a Catholic Relief Services publication “Prayer Without Borders, Celebrating Global Wisdom.”
Bearing Witness to Peace
Lord God, we come to you in our need. Create in us an awareness of the massive forces that threaten our world today. Give us a sense of urgency to activate the forces of goodness, of justice, of love and of Peace. Where there is armed conflict, let us stretch our arms to our brothers and sisters. Where there is abundance, let there be simple lifestyle and sharing. Where there is poverty, let there be dignified living and constant striving for just structures. Where there are wounds of division, let there be unity and wholeness. Help us to be committed to the building of your kingdom. Not seeking to be cared for but to care. Not expecting to be served, but to place ourselves in the service of others. Not aspiring to be materially secure, but to place our security in your love. Teach us your spirit, only in loving imitation of you can we discover the healing springs of life that will bring new birth to our world. AMEN – Prayer from the Philippines
Spring/Summer Book Study:
Lazarus at the Table, Catholics and Social Justice by Bernard F. Evans with a companion book Saints and Social Justice, A Guide to Changing the World, by Brandon Vogt will be our books. We are called to live the Eucharist in the world and to live the teachings of Jesus. Catholic Social Teaching shows us how to contribute to the building of a more loving and just community. Dr. Carolyn Woo, President and CEO of Catholic Relief Services said, “We cannot commit to what we do not understand.” This book study will help connect faith with personal action. Books can be purchased on Amazon, or through the publishers web sites; www.litpress.org for Lazarus at the Table and www.osv.org for Saints and Social Justice. For sign-up or help ordering the books contact Robin Black-Rubenstein at the parish office. There will be two nine-week sessions to choose from: Wednesday evening 7:15-8:30 p.m. May 6—July 1 Thursday morning 8:45-10:00 a.m. May 14—July 16
An Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy is Announced but Has not Started Yet
In a gesture that was heavy with symbolism and strongly reflective of his desires for our Church, Pope Francis announced that we would celebrate a Holy Year - an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Pope Francis made this announcement on April 11, 2015. That day was the Vigil of the Second Sunday of Easter which is also Divine Mercy Sunday. Ten years ago Saint John Paul II died on the Vigil of Divine Mercy Sunday. (April 2, 2005)
The Holy Year will open on December 8, 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, and will close on the Solemnity of Christ the King on November 20, 2016. On the opening day of the Holy Year, Pope Francis will open a door at St. Peters’ Basilica in the Vatican and the door will be designated a Door of Mercy to which we may make a pilgrimage and pass through at this special time of grace. A similar door or doors will be designated for every diocese in the world and we may also make a pilgrimage to those doors to gain the same graces available during the Holy Year. When Pope Francis opens the door at Saint Peter’s on December 8, 2015, that will be on the 50th anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council.
In his proclamation announcing the Holy Year, Pope Francis presented an in depth rationale based in scripture for why our Lord is the very embodiment of mercy and why we should celebrate a Year of Mercy at this time. He said – “The church is commissioned to announce the mercy of God, the beating heart of the Gospel, which in its own way must penetrate the heart and mind of every person…It is absolutely essential for the Church and the credibility of her message that she herself live and testify to mercy.”
During these months leading up to the beginning of the Holy Year, I will share what Pope Francis said about how mercy fits into our Church and our lives.

St. Boniface Youth to Attend World Youth Day 2016 For the past 6 months, a group of 6 high school students have been working to raise money to attend World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow, Poland. The group will travel with
Bishop Paprocki and others from the diocese July 22 - August 1, 2016. While on pilgrimage, we will visit the Black Madonna Shrine in Czestochowa, the Auschwitz concentration camp to see the cell of St. Maximilian Kolbe, and Birkenau to see the place of martyrdom of St. Edith Stein. We will also visit the home town of St. John Paul II and many other shrines before joining with 3.5 million young people from all over the world. If you can help us financially in any way, we truly appreciate your generosity. Most of all, we ask you to please join us in praying that St. John Paul II, the Patron of World Youth Day, may intercede on behalf of our pilgrimage toward his beloved Krakow and help us as we prepare spiritually for our journey!
THANK YOU
A huge THANK YOU to all of our Liturgical Ministers, especially our Ministers of Music—the Handbell Choir, Cantors, Adult Choir, Children’s Choir, and Easter morning Schola and instrumentalists — who so beautifully added to the solemn celebrations of Holy Week. Thank you for all of your hours of practice, hard work and dedication. You are all a great gift and a joy to work with!
A special Thank You to Marc Schapman for directing the Children’s Choir. May God bless you all richly!!

S T E W A R D S H I P 8 !
From the Vatican, 26 December 2013 Feast of Saint Stephen, Deacon and First Martyr
Cont. from last week No less a concern is moral destitution, which consists in slavery to vice and sin. How much pain is caused in families because one of their members – often a young person - is in thrall to alcohol, drugs, gambling or pornography! How many people no longer see meaning in life or prospects for the future, how many have lost hope! And how many are plunged into this destitution by unjust social conditions, by unemployment, which takes away their dignity as breadwinners, and by lack of equal access to education and health care. In such cases, moral destitution can be considered impending self destruction. This type of destitution, which also causes financial ruin, is invariably linked to the spiritual destitution which we experience when we turn away from God and reject his love. If we think we don’t need God who reaches out to us through Christ, because we believe we can make do on our own, we are headed for a fall. God alone can truly save and free us. The Gospel is the real antidote to spiritual destitution: wherever we go, we are called as Christians to proclaim the liberating news that forgiveness for sins committed is possible, that God is greater than our sinfulness, that he freely loves us at all times and that we were made for communion and eternal life. The Lord asks us to be joyous heralds of this message of mercy and hope! It is thrilling to experience the joy of spreading this good news, sharing the treasure entrusted to us, consoling broken hearts and offering hope to our brothers and sisters experiencing darkness. It means following and imitating Jesus, who sought out the poor and sinners as a shepherd lovingly seeks his lost sheep. In union with Jesus, we can courageously open up new paths of evangelization and human promotion.
Dear brothers and sisters, may this Lenten season find the whole Church ready to bear witness to all those who live in material, moral and spiritual destitution the Gospel message of the merciful love of God our Father, who is ready to embrace everyone in Christ. We can do this to the extent that we imitate Christ who became poor and enriched us by his poverty. Lent is a fitting time for self-denial; we would do well to ask ourselves what we can give up in order to help and enrich others by our own poverty. Let us not forget that real poverty hurts: no self-denial is real without this dimension of penance. I distrust a charity that costs nothing and does not hurt.
May the Holy Spirit, through whom we are "as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything" (2 Cor 6:10), sustain us in our resolutions and increase our concern and responsibility for human destitution, so that we can become merciful and act with mercy. In expressing this hope, I likewise pray that each individual member of the faithful and every Church community will undertake a fruitful Lenten journey. I ask all of you to pray for me. May the Lord bless you and Our Lady keep you safe.
