THE MOST HOLY TRINITY, JUNE 7, 2020 3

Dear Friends,

I hope this note finds you doing well. I am writing to share a recent development. After reflection and prayer and

looking at the process for the grouping, I made a request. I shared with the Diocese that I felt that I should be

relieved of the position of Administrator of the parish grouping of Assumption, Sacred Heart and St. John Neumann.

Please hear my reasons. Setting the mission, forming ministries, and looking at long range goals are important. I

don’t believe that I should set that vision and then leave. The leader needs to be part of that process, have

ownership, and work with all of you. Bishop Zubik has been installing pastors of the new parishes for a 6 year term.

I do not have that vision for ministry. I’m turning 69 in July. I think a new person should join you on that journey.

I received my letter that I will be leaving the grouping July 1st. I was told my replacement was not decided as of

May 20th. Please know that this decision isn’t something that I have made lightly.

I truly believe that this is best for the grouping - working to establish the new parish, setting goals, developing the team an d

leading you into the future. Know that you all will remain in my prayers. It has been a blessing for me to be with you.

In my prayers, Fr. John

GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY SON, SO THAT EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM MIGHT NOT PERISH

BUT MIGHT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

JOHN 3:16-18

THANK YOU!

Thank you for supporting North Hills Community

Outreach with groceries and monetary donations as a

result of your very successful food drive! It is because

of your generosity that over 3,000 families received

the assistance and attention they needed and deserved.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY

In a “normal” time, St. John Neumann Church

would be holding its annual Baby Bottle

Campaign to support Women’s Choice

Network (WCN). As a alternative to the

traditional baby bottle campaign, WCN is conducting a Virtual Baby

Bottle Campaign. To donate, please go to EBottle.org and under the

“leaderboard” you will find St. John Neumann and can easily make a

donation. If you prefer, checks can be mailed directly to Women’s

Choice Network; P O Box 15034, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Thank you for

your support.

SAFE FAMILIES, PGH

Thanks to those who donated to the supplies for the Grab & Go Bags

that were distributed to over 200 children via the Salvation Army.

Their families are very grateful for the diversion and entertainment

they will provide.

Come hear Megan McKenna, Catholic

R e g i s t e r www.associationofpittsburghpriests.com (or copy and paste in your browser), hit REGISTER, which will take you to the RSVP page. Scroll down to enter the number of people attending at your location, then CHECKOUT. You will receive an email with a link to the meeting on the 16th. Save the email. Please log on about 10-15 minutes early.

BAPTISMS can currently be celebrated outside of Mass with groups of

less than 25 people. Those attending need to wear masks and some changes

have been implemented to minimize person to person contact.

RECONCILIATION can be offered in our Church buildings. Open

confessional stations are used as opposed to closed confessionals. Social

distancing, wearing masks, and frequent sanitization is required. FIRST

RECONCILIATION will be addressed as we identify the timeline for First

Communion.

FIRST COMMUNION These are extremely important events and we

desire to make this liturgy as close to normal as possible, so we would like to

get comfortable with our adjusted Mass process before we schedule these.

CONFIRMATION We are still holding the option open of Confirmation

over the summer, but are awaiting additional clarity regarding the number of

people and the adjustments necessary to make this happen. We will provide

sufficient notice for planning purposes and will keep you updated.

RCIA The diocese has expressed that we should welcome our candidates

and elect back to Mass as soon as possible. We will want to make sure that

we can officially bring them into the church in a liturgy that honors the

beautiful moment that our brothers and sisters have worked toward.

Marriages Weddings can be celebrated under the same limitations as

Baptisms. 25 people, masks, social distancing.

Anointing of the Sick is a powerful sacrament that gives spiritual

strength to those who are seriously ill, dying, or in some danger of death. If

you or a family member is a candidate for the sacrament of Anointing of the

Sick due to age, illness, hospitalization, or upcoming risky surgery, please

contact the hospital chaplain or the parish office to arrange for a priest to

meet with you or your family member.

SACRAMENTS MASS

SUNDAY MASS will begin June 6/7 with

the following additional limitations:

25% of church capacity per Mass.

Assumption=235

Sacred Heart=110

MASS WILL CONTINUE TO BE

SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE YELLOW On May 15th, most of the counties in the Diocese of Pittsburgh entered the yellow

phase of the State’s Phased Reopening plan. Also on May 15th, we received a 43 page

document from the Diocese that provides guidance for parishes as we move away from

stay-at-home orders to a time of cautious small gatherings.

COVID19 Safety Team. We have pulled together a group a parishioners to help with

the significant logistic challenges of opening our doors for Mass under the current

stringent sanitary and social distance guidelines. We hope to be able to provide

opportunity for those who are healthy and desire to attend Mass. STAY TUNED!

Sunday by Sunday—Thursday Mornings at 10 AM

You don’t want to miss our lively and informative discussion of the

Sunday readings that take each Thursday morning at 10:00

am. Look at the Sunday readings for the week: Who wrote it?

Where were they located? Where does that fit in Jewish history?

Who was the audience? I promise you will learn something, be

inspired and probably be smiling when our time is over. Email

Lale Virostek at [email protected] to be added to the

list or get the zoom link on bellworthparkcc.org Sunday by

Sunday.

Our weekly ‘meeting’ is growing in number as we continue

through our distance discussions. There were 12 people who

participated recently. So much information on the readings was

shared, along with closing prayer intentions. What a blessing to be

“together”!!

There are a variety of ways you can participate—preparing the soil, planting seeds/seedlings, watering, weeding, harvesting and delivering. We are flexible on time commitment and scheduling. All ages and skill levels are welcome! We have a specific need this month for volunteers to spread mulch in the beds and on the garden paths.

1ST SACRAMENTS

Reconciliation can be offered in our Church buildings. Open confessional stations are used as opposed to closed confessionals. Social distancing, wearing masks, and frequent sanitization is required. Keeping these regulations in mind First Reconciliation for St. John Neumann will be addressed as we identify the timeline for First Communion. First Communion is an extremely important event. We desire to make this liturgy as close to normal as possible. As we get comfortable with the adjusted Mass process we will look at a schedule for the First Communion Masses.

ZOOM First Sacrament Children —Fr. Dave will be joining the children on a Zoom call on Wednesday, June 10 at 4:30 or 5:30 to talk with them about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Fr. Dave and Lale look forward to seeing you and talking with you.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION

We offer prayers for all couples preparing for marriage

during this time of uncertainty, rescheduling and

wondering. With God’s help our team will gather with

couples to explore the beauty of the Sacrament of Marriage.

Our next marriage preparation is scheduled for September

19, 2020 from 9 am—5 pm.

CONGRATULATIONS NEWLYWEDS

BELL WORTH PARK CATHOLIC COMMUNITY

TRANSITION NEWS The Transition Council met virtually on Thursday, May 7th. We reviewed and discussed the fears and hopes raised in the first two Listening Sessions held back in March. We also reviewed questions raised and answers to more than 25 questions raised in the initial sessions. These have been posted as an FAQ on www.bellworthparkcc.org/transition. The fears and hopes will be combined with those from our third listening session when we are able to safely conduct it.

For those who were unable to attend the Listening Sessions, each person attending was given the opportunity to express their greatest fears and greatest hopes related to the formation of our grouping into One Parish. All of the responses were documented for the consideration of the Transition Team. If you are saying: I wish I would have been there, you can send your greatest fears and hopes to [email protected] .

In terms of the impact that the coronavirus pandemic will have on the timing and elements of the transition of our parish grouping, Fr. John shared that the Diocese postponed the first of a series of meetings for groupings that were tentatively scheduled to transition in January of 2021 (our grouping was included in this). We are awaiting further news on this as many elements of the transition process were initially planned when regular Sunday and other gatherings of parishioners were a reasonable assumption. We will keep you posted. In the meantime, let’s keep each other in prayer.

GIVING DURING COVID-19 We are so grateful for those of you who have so generously

reached out to us to find out how you can continue to support the

work of our parish even when there was no Mass and no collection.

You can now make a one-time or monthly recurring contribution

online by credit card or secure electronic transfer from a checking

account. Please be aware that we incur a processing fee of roughly

3% of online donations by credit card but only 1% by checking

account EFT.

You can also mail envelopes in to your church. A monthly rather

than weekly basis is suggested, but all contributions are welcome.

Find out more about all the options for continued financial support

of the church at https://bellworthparkcc.org/giving.
