September 28-29, 2013 Pastor Dan & Rhonda Backens A Spiritual Father I have a wonderful father. His name is Vern and he is 82 years old. Dad has taught me the value of hard work, getting a good education, and having a sense of humor. He has been faithful to his church for 60 years and to my mom for even longer. He still actively runs our family ranch, but is also always planning the next big trip with Mom to some far off place! He has truly blessed me with a good family name. I love dad. The Bible says that in addition to natural fathers, God gives us spiritual fathers. These are men who form us spiritually and prepare us for service in the body of Christ. Over a lifetime, you can have many spiritual fathers; in different seasons of your life, each may play a critical role in your maturing in God. Jack Hayford is a spiritual father to me. In the early days of the renewal movement in South Dakota, I was pastoring in a very rural area in a small church. I didn’t have an opportunity to go to seminary and I had no one to guide me in the things of the Spirit. To grow spiritually I was really on my own, so I listened to Pastor Jack’s weekly sermon on local Christian radio, ordered his teaching tapes, and read his books. I found him to be deeply spiritual and yet very practical. I could really relate to him. Over time, I met Pastor Jack personally and, with that, his influence in my life intensified even more. He has profoundly shaped my theology, my view of church, and my understanding of the Spirit’s work. Not long ago someone who did not know my history with Dr. Hayford said to me, You remind me of Jack Hayford.” That was the greatest compliment possible for a spiritual son. Pastor Dan

A Spiritual Father

I have a wonderful father. Welcome, guests!Welcome, guests!Welcome, guests!Welcome, guests! To help you feel a little more at home, here’s a snapshot of what to expect.

Our worship includes a variety of musical styles, all having the primary purpose of exalting the Lord. Some songs will have a gospel feel, others will have a contemporary flavor, and some will be traditional.

During worship you may see:

♦ Raising of hands

♦ Spontaneous singing

♦ Clapping

♦ Public prophecy

♦ Special music by the choir and worship team

Whatever the style, we hope you find our worship to be wholeheart-ed unto the Lord and done with a spirit of excellence.

You will find that the dress here is semi-casual. Upon your arrival, childcare for your baby or toddler and classes for your 3-year-olds through kindergarten are in Kids Cove, the wing on the west side of the building (Kempsville campus) or Kids Creek at the north end of the building (Deep Creek). Elementary age children attend the worship portion of the service with their families until they are released to their age-appropriate ministry.

A typical service lasts about 100 minutes and divides approximately according to this schedule:

Praise & worship 30 minutes Ministry time 10 minutes Announcements, offering & 15 minutes Release of children Practical teaching 45 minutes

New Life Providence offers seven worship services in a variety of sizes and venues. Pick up a full schedule at the information center.

NEXT STEPS MEETING FOR NEW BELIEVERS TODAY! If you have recently committed (or re-committed) your life to the Lord, we invite you to join the service pastors immediately after service. The goal of this meeting is for our pastors to meet you and to recommend some “next steps” for securing your faith’s foundation. The meeting will be brief (15 minutes) and well worth your time.
