A Smattering of Matters

Baby Matters I am thrilled to share that I am editing this article from home with baby Finn. We are blessed to be home with a healthy little boy. We are thankful he has a wonderful church home and we look forward to you meeting him. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we walk through these days of early parenthood. McFarland Matters

I am so thankful for the vote on the Nellie Gray McFarland’s Estate this week. All year I

watched and worked with the Trustees and now they hand the baton to a new commit-tee. I hope you are excited about how they will lead us all into the next chapter of this huge project for our church.

In the coming months, you will receive reports from the committee as they lead us to decisions that will provide a lasting impact through missions and ministry. Bunk Bed Matters Baptist News Global is a news agency that provides news and information about Baptist life. This week, Oxford Baptist Church’s Baptist Men were interviewed as a part of a story that writer Jeff Brumley is writing about the work CBF Field Personnel Marc and Kim Wyatt do to help refugees settling in the Triangle. For his article he also talked to me about our Baptist Men’s Bunk Bed Project.

In Matthew 6 we read, “when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what

your right hand is doing,” but sometimes, the other hand finds out that something great

is happening and, to quote Acts 4.20, “we cannot help speaking about what we have

seen and heard.”

I am thankful for the Baptist Men’s work on these beds and, if you have further ques-tions about it, please, call Steve Timberlake. Reading Matters Last year, our church began a partnership with GVFICA - Granville Vance Faith Initiative for Community Action. As a part of that partnership, we have been paired with C.G. Cradle Elementary School to provide volunteers to begin a reading relationship with students during their media lab time. If this is something you are interested in, until we have a coordinator in place to work directly with the school, you can talk to me as we begin this important partnership.

Food Matters Finally, several weeks ago, we received an appeal from ACIM - Area Congregations In Ministry - for food. Their shelves are bare and they challenged us to bring five items each month to help them catch up with need. If you can, bring nonperishable food for ACIM to the office or place them in the baskets outside the office and CFC. Thank you for your help. There are many more ways for you to be actively involved with your faith though our

church’s good work. I hope you will find one

and serve our Lord well in the coming days. Sleepily, Chris
