From the President’s Desk: The Pine Needle A Service of the Lake Pine Colony Club Medford, NJ OCTOBER 2008 VOLUME 50 ISSUE 10 Mark your calendars! Halloween Party 10/17 General Membership Meeting Thursday, October 23 @ 7:30. Lake Piners, I hope your fall season is going well, and by the time you see this, the Phillies are in the world se- ries!!! Due to some technical issues, I have not been able to write to you in a couple of months, there is a lot of people to thank. The entire community owes a debt of gratitude to all the volunteers, and sponsors that were involved in Lake Pine Day. It was the best parade, and carnival we have had in years. Dhyan Cassie and her team have once again impressed us with their ability to make an old tradition fun for the whole family. I enjoyed seeing, and talking to all of you. I truly believe that it is things like Lake Pine day that make our community a special place to live. I would also like to personally thank the Village of Taunton Forge, and Medford Business Associa- tion, their generosity in supporting events in their neighborhood is unprecedented. I hope you enjoyed the Halloween party that has just passed, and look forward to the breakfast with Santa in December. The events for the kids are vital to making sure we keep our community spirit throughout the year. You probably have started to see the changes going on at the clubhouse grounds. The board has worked hard to clean, and fix that area up to make the look of the community better for all of you, and also to make sure that your home is worth as much as in can be. I hope you like everything we are doing and look forward to hearing from you about it. I have had some of our new members call me to ask about the signs for your front yards. I am happy to say that they are in! If you need one, please feel free to call or e-mail me and I will make sure we get one to you. We are happy that you have decided to support the community and wel- come you as members. If you are one of our neighbors that still has not joined in supporting the community in which you live, please do so before the new by-law changes take effect. We wel- come you!! As always feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. I can be reached on my cell phone (215) 740 – 8298 or via e-mail [email protected] Have a safe and happy fall season!!! Try Volunteering – You’ll Be Glad You Did

Every year the Lake Pine Colony Club organizes and presents many worthwhile and enjoyable events. In addition, the LPCC maintains and preserves our very valuable lake, beaches, clubhouse and allied community properties. All of this is to the betterment and enrichment of ourselves, our families, and our very special Lake Pine community. Every year, those who make this happen struggle to find a sufficient number of volunteers to make those events a reality. We have decided to fix that by developing a database of those in Lake Pine who would like to volunteer for the various kinds of help/skills we need during the year. The enclosed survey sheet is pretty much self explanatory, and will only take a brief moment of your time to complete. We will compile the responses and make the database available to those Chairpersons who are looking for help during the course of the year. The list will make it easier for them to staff the event they are chairing, and allow them more time to concentrate on making the event bigger and better than ever. We need a response from every LPCC Member, so please take the time to fill it out and drop it off. We need to know your decision. If you do not respond with this survey form, our committee will be calling you to gather the information on the phone. This takes up your time and ours, so please help us and fill it out. We value your time, so please value ours.

It’s your community…please help support it!

We sincerely thank you for your attention, your neighborly friendship, and most of all your volunteerism.

Lake Pine Day—GAMES AND PRIZES REVIEW

Your 2008 co-chairs of the "prizes and Games" send a huge, sincere thank you to all who answered the call to help run the prize booth and the individual games for Lake Pine Day. WOW! We all were so busy managing the large crowd of people , we hardly had time to smell the hot dogs or linger over the great baked goods. Sue and I are so impressed with the courtesy, kindness and work ethic of our many volunteers. Our goal was to make people happy that they came to play and it seems they did!! With advance apologies for those we may have missed, here is our crew! Thanks to Dyhan Cassie who did a great job as Chairperson for Lake Pine Day and Brian Beadling as our club President. Thanks to the following Prize Booth attendants: Maria Bryan, Kate Diller and Kim Shaw (and others who pitched in) Kudos to the game volun-teers ( others helped out their friends and we may not know their names.-----let us know! Ian and Luke Bakanas, Robbie Boyle and friend "Jack", Bryan family, Justin Brickner, Katie Brickner, Taryn Brickner, Marty Brickner, Keegan Conner, Chelsea Duerholz, Gerry Duffy, John Falcone, Erin and Brie Hartman, Taylor Hunter, Rachel Lynch, Naji Johnson, Devon Moll, Nadia Maslowych, Evan Keane, Vinnie Misiewicz, Shane Moore, the entire Oattes and Handel family, Erin Posch, Chris Vaughn, Jake Volkeriyk, Rob Vogel , Mike and Pat Yurcho and oth-ers who hopped in to help at Sponge Bob and Tattoo table. Many thanks to the young men of Fire Station 252 who sprayed cool water and livened up the day! Finally, to those who helped set up the games for us on Sunday night and stayed to do the clean up on Monday....you are appreciated! And finally, without the Pine Needle, there would be no news in Lake Pine.....thanks Amy! Sincerely, Sue Angermeier and Connie Livingston

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Sandcastle event this year! Josephine Kaskich won honorable mention for being the youngest partici-pant– 23 months old. Ava Livingston and Quinlyn Moll won gold medals in the 3-5 year old age group. Spencer Anderson took first place in the 6-8 year old group. There was some stiff competition in the 9-11 group. Devon Moll and Alana Bodendorff took 2nd place and Payton Conner and Katarina Hum-pries took 1st place. The judges had a difficult time making a decision in the 12 and up group. Both groups had beautiful and original designs. Second place went to Naida Maslowych, Lauren Wenger and Connor Humphries. First place went to Carly Mimlitsch, Emily Gallager and Olivia Damhheiser. Thanks to our judges Sharon Schnieder, Connie Livingston and Ron Scheller. Special thanks to Dottie Lemyre for getting up early and helping to set up. That’s what Lake Pine Day is all about: Friends and Fun!

There was no September Pine Needle due to a computer failure. Sorry for any missed thank you notes from Labor Day. After my short tenure at the Pine Needle it is time for me to move on. It is not a time consuming project as most files are cut and pasted from other documents. Any one interested in taking over or helping can contact me at [email protected].
