A SEASON OF GIVING
Phi Beta Lambda’s (PBL) mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working
relationship through innovative leadership and integrated programs, career development programs,
and curriculum. Phi Beta Lambda is on the leading edge of career and technical education. Promoting
business ethics is critical to our organization and to the future of the community and economy of
Americus, Georgia.
Purpose of Project
The purpose of the “Season of Giving” Community Service Project is to provide much needed
assistance to the organizations and families in Americus, Georgia and to serve the community. We
choose to hold it during the holiday season, hence the name “Season of Giving”, this is the time of
year when these families need extra resources the most. Every year during the holiday season South
Georgia Technical College, Americus Campus, Phi Beta Lambda hosts its annual “Season of Giving”.
The “Season of Giving” is a compilation of three drives that run during the entire holiday season
starting in early November and concluding in December. The three drives we host include a food drive,
a toy drive, and a trauma bear drive. Each drive consists of gathering needed items such as, non-
perishable food items, new packaged toys, and lightly loved stuffed animals, and donating them to our
local Salvation Army, the Americus Fire Department, the Department of Family and Children
Services, and the Harvest of Hope.
Statement of Project Goals
The goals of the Season of Giving are as follows:
1. Donate food to a local food pantry
2. Donate toys for underprivileged children
3. Donate stuffed animal for officials to comfort children during emergency situations
4. Collaborate with local FBLA chapters and professional members
3
5. Engaged the campus educational community.
Service to the Community and Its Citizens
Our primary goal for the project includes reaching out to the community during the holiday season
and gathering donated items and taking them to local businesses to be distributed accordingly with
expectations of assisting the less fortunate during times of need. Services that we act on are providing
food for the hungry, donating toys, children on Christmas, and donating bears to provide comfort for
families and children in crisis. Our community is very important to our organization and we take pride
in recognizing local needs and making a difference one day at a time.

A community service project of this magnitude requires a great deal of planning, dedication, and
commitment. Prior to the timeline provided below, a thorough observation was done within the
community to gain ideas about what we could bring to the table after getting the approval to move
forward from Dr. John Watford, the President of South Georgia Technical College.
Implementation
After decisions had been made and deadlines had been set, the first order of business was preparing
for the start of the drive by getting the necessary resources that we were going to need. We met with
several education programs at South Georgia Technical College to explain our cause and ask for
donations, which they supported and agreed to the fullest. We also partnered with several other local
organizations in the effort to expand our impact. This year we collaborated with our local business
partner, PharmaCentra LLC, along with the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) - Georgia
Southwestern State University, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) – Americus Sumter High
School South Campus (ASHS), and our sister campus SGTC – Cordele. Flyers were created to
advertise drives and members hand wrapped boxes that were placed at different collection points
around SGTC Americus Campus. These boxes were in placed to collect canned food, trauma bears,
and toys. We held a competition for all SGTC educational programs to compete for the most donated
items. The categories consisted of food, trauma bears, and toys for tots. We are so grateful to have
such a supportive students and staff at South Georgia Technical College.
Impact to the Community
“The Season of Giving” kicked off during the month of November until the beginning of December.
Around this time of the year these donations are need more than ever and are greatly appreciated by
the individuals that will be receiving the donations. With the partnerships that we formed this year
with other organizations, we had a phenomenal year. Comparing our total donations from our previous
5
year, we more than tripled our total number of contributions to a grand total of 1,282 items. A total of
946 food items that we collected was donate to the Harvest of Hope, 170 trauma bears donated to the
Georgia State Patrol, and 166 toys were donated to the Sumter County Department of Family &
Children Services (DFACS). This year we not only started new partnerships with other organizations
in our surrounding area, but we also created a stronger bond with our community. This project did not
just benefit the community and the people receiving donations, this project was a huge impact on our
community but did a great deal for us as individuals of the organization. “Season of Giving” gave us
a chance to sharpen up our overall leadership skills and grow effectively as a chapter.
Evidence of Publicity
The Season of Giving effort was very successful. The results were published on our school website
and were also shared campus wide via email.
