Rockville Centre Democratic Club Incorporated in 1923 - Our 91st year.
324 Brower Avenue, Rockville Centre, NY 11570 [email protected] (516) 418-2336
December 31, 2013
This item of local historical political memorabilia has been revived and posted by our Club, both for its general interest and to remind us that community political spirit helps to tie the community together and depends upon the persistent and proud work of ourselves and our neighbors.
With the passage of time, “politics” and “partisan” have increasingly been treated by some as being close to epithets. In fact, it is only by people organizing together, to discuss and work for the common good, that our local, county, state and national objectives have been achieved.
Those who always sit on a fence, instead of taking the risk of creativity, choice and responsibility, would soon find themselves helplessly adrift, were it not for the often adversarial environment of the political process. By opting out, they are left only with choices fashioned by others.
Similarly, grassroots activity, inquiry and informed judgment, within a party, must act as a check on unbridled decision making by a few party leaders. Passive partisanship invariably results in corruption of the democratic process.
This and a number of other items of memorabilia, can be downloaded at the website of the Rockville Centre Democratic Club. We regularly post to the site current and historical documents that provide important and interesting information. If you would like to be on our regular mailing list, send a request to: [email protected].

A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT
Where does the time go?
Are we to believe that 25 years bas gone by since Morris Schneider first started making his presence felt in Rockville Centre Democratic circles?
Moe's appearance on the local scene coincided with the rise of Adlai Stevenson in the national Democratic arena. Over the years, as club president and Zone Chairman. his leadership qualities breathed fresh air into local Democratic activities .•. When the ·Kenned.ys and Gene Nickerson came along; when a John S. Thorp, Jr. and a Herbert Tenzer surfaced, among others, the organization Moe helped to mold was ready.
His has been an illustrious era. And yet when we speak of Moe and salute him tonight, we can't help recall Lillian Horowitz, who along with Moe labored faithfully in the political vineyards. As a committeewoman, she went on to become co-leader of our assembly district. These two stalwarts are both reminders of the halcyon days of Democratic happenings in Nassau County during the Nickerson era.
We do honor to our pair of veterans of the political wars tonight, and in the "retirement" for which they have opted, we wish them well.
BENJAMINE. PEARLMAN
CHAIRMAN OF THE
BALL REPORTS
The second time around ...
For the second year it has beeit my privilege to serve as chairman of the Rockville Centre Democratic Club Dinner-Dance. Despite the fact that the ground had been covered once before, the myriad of details remain. And because of the situation that found me commuting betwen here and Albany during the week, the chairmanship position, familiarity with the job notwithstanding, became a little difficult at times. Fortunately, I had valuable back up help from John Campbell and President Ben. And, so, here we are tonight.
I spoke about the privilege of being chairman of the evening. That privilege can be a moot one at times. However. in chairing an event that honors Moe Schneider and Lillian Horowitz, I know I do not use the word loosely. It is indeed a privilege, and I trust the heritage they left us in the annals of Rockville Centre Democratic history will stand us in good stead in the years to come.
EUGENE W. BECHTLE, JR.
MESSAGE FROM THE ZONE CHAIRMAN
Only rarely does one have the opportunity to truly tell people about the accomplishments of colleagues when the colleagues are around to hear about it. This pleasant occasion is just one such fortunate time, for the honoring of Morris H. Schneider and Lillian Horowitz by this organization is an event which has been earned a long time ago.
It is about 2S years since Moe and Lil became active in politics on the local scene, and they have been an integral part of it ever since. Moe, in particular, has been outstanding in his diligence and devotion to public affairs, and has compiled an outstanding and unduplicated record as Nassau County Attorney, Executive Director of the Nassau County Planning Commission, Corporation Counsel for the City of Long Beach, and now as Law Secretary for a Supreme Court Justice. All that on top of his past services as RVC Democratic Club President and Zone Chairman. Lil, too, has distinguished herself, both as public servant and as a party official. They have much to be proud of, and we in the R VC Democratic organization are proud of them.
I am therefore pleased to extend to them (and to Estelle and Rob, who have suffered along with their activist spouses these many years) our heartiest congratulations and our greatest thanks for jobs well done. We know that they may have retired from their roles, but that in their hearts they continue with us and support our efforts. We, for our part, pledge to continue the work which they have started.
