Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 20, 2019

JMJ October 20, 2019

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always.

First, I would like to thank Fr. Martin for volunteering to lead the group that presented in Spanish the Dynamic Catholic Parish Topic: “Who are you Becoming?” I do hope that our Spanish speaking parishioners were able to benefit from this opportunity for spiritual growth and learning.

I also thank all those who have assisted our Youth Ministry Coordinator Emmanuel in the two batches of Confirmation Program Retreats last and this weekend. I think it was providential that last Sunday we had a separate “Special Mass” only for the retreatants and their parents at the Lecture Room. It made the celebration of the Eucharist more of an intimate encounter with the Lord.

Wednesday was the day we engaged in events that strengthen our resolve to fight for the Respect and Dignity of All Life especially against abortion through the screening of the movie: “Unplanned” and the over night Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Let me give a Big Thank You to Dave Atkins and all those who have generously supported his leadership and coordination of our Annual Parish Festival. This Year’s October Cultural Food Festival was an opportunity to come together to enjoy each other’s company and the good food prepared by the different cultural groups in our Parish Family. I do hope you made time and effort to reciprocate their selfless gift of stewardship to make the Festival happen.

The Gospel speaks about the virtue of persistent prayer that as the song expresses: “Till the answer comes . . . you got to keep praying, keep praying.” While this is an attitude we must adopt in our prayer life so that we manifest fortitude and patient endurance. I believe this also reflects God our Loving Father’s attitude towards each one of us. He has since creation reached out to humanity in so many different ways.

The question now is how we have

responded to God reaching out to each one of us. We have a plethora of opportunities to respond. The most obvious one is engaging and encountering our Lord Jesus during the Sabbath – our moment to receive the graces from the Eucharist. We also have activities the whole week to be engage in our faith life. The Daily devotions after the morning Masses and on Monday evenings in Spanish, ministries that have events during the week like: Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius & Bible Studies in English and Spanish, and many more. I encourage everyone to prayerfully reflect and listen to where our Loving God is calling you. I am praying that all of you be truly consistent, persistent and persevering in your desire to truly and intimate enter into a relationship of discipleship with our Lord Jesus. God bless and take care.

Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Do you dream? God often speaks to us in our dreams. The story of Joseph fleeing to Egypt with his family puts Joseph center-stage in

this part of the gospel. (Later, Matthew has Jesus teaching his disciples how not to respond in kind to violence but to love their enemies, pray for their persecutors.) There are circumstances,

shown in this story of Joseph, that perhaps the necessary course of action is to take flight. Remember the times you maybe had to “flee”

from bullying, abuse, evil? Egypt becomes a place of refuge and safety for Joseph, Mary and Jesus. Why does a quote from Hosea

ll:1 “Out of Egypt I called my son” when it seems they had just arrived?

All are welcome to join the team!! Wednesdays 9:00 AM or 7:00 PM in the parish hall

Handcrafted Items from the Holy Land November 9th and 10th

A family from the Holy Land (Bethlehem) will be selling religious handcrafted items made from olive wood. Proceeds from the sale of these items will go towards support of Catholic families in the Holy Land who are experiencing political strife. Due to the violence and discrimination towards Christians in the Holy Land, most of the families have left their country and moved to different parts of the world. There are now less than 1.2 percent of the population left trying to support themselves. Please help support these families by purchasing their goods.
