OverviewThe Trefoil system is a breakthrough in efficiency, making fixed, definitive teeth on the day of surgery* a choice for many patients. Thanks to the pre-manufactured titanium bar with a unique fixation mechanism on just three implants, mandibular edentulism can be treated with reduced chair time and increased efficiency. Learn how this solution can be a bridge to a new patient population. A hands-on session is included.
This course is intended for the entire treatment team. The team approach is critical for this training. Success is dependent on the close collaboration between surgeon, restorative doctor, and laboratory technician.
After this one-day course, the participant will… – Understand the concept of diagnostics and treatment options for advanced rehabilitation of the edentulous mandible.
– Be familiar with scientific support material and clinical evidence. – Know the indications and limitations of treatment with the Trefoil system. – Be able to identify the steps in the surgical and restorative procedure. – Be familiar with clinical cases using the Trefoil system and know the benefits for the patient and the clinician.
Recommended course pre-workIn an effort to enhance your learning experience, we encourage attendees to select a potential case in advance for evaluation and discussion. Detailed treatment planning will be discussed during the lecture for those cases transferred in advance.

Speaker information Kenji Higuchi, DDS, MS Dr. Kenji Higuchi graduated from University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in 1969. Currently in private practice in Spokane, Washington, he has held past full-time and adjunct academic appointments at the University of Iowa. Dr. Kenji Higuchi is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and holds fellowships in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and American College of Dentists, among others. Dr. Higuchi has authored or co-authored 36 publications and has lectured internationally for the past 30 years. He serves as a consultant to the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants and Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research.
Stephen Parel, DDSDr. Stephen Parel received his dental degree from The Medical College of Virginia in 1969. He spent one year as a general practice resident with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond, which was followed by a two-year residency in prosthodontics at the Wadsworth Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles. He received his maxillofacial prosthetics training in Houston at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in 1973. He became a faculty member in the University of Texas System in 1975, rising to the rank of full professor in the San Antonio Medical and Dental Schools in 1978. He served as head of the Maxillofacial Prosthetics Division in the Department of Prosthodontics until 1991, which was followed by seven years of private practice in prosthetic and implant dentistry.
Dr. Parel is a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, the American and International College of Dentists, and is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Academy of Prosthodontics, and the American College of Prosthodontics. He has been course director for osseointegration training at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Dentistry in San Antonio, one of the four original Brånemark training centers in the United States. His literature contributions include over 45 scientific articles as principal author, and multiple textbook contributions. He was editor and co-author of Esthetics and Osseointegration.
