REGISTRATION FEE AND CREDITThe registration fee is $285 for dentists and $150 for team members. The UNC School of Dentistry designates this activity for (up to) 6 hours of continuing education credits. The registration deadline is April 1, 2016. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided with your paid registration.

Cancellations and RefundsA registration refund, less a $50 fee, will be issued for cancellations received by Friday, April 1, 2016. Cancellation requests must be received in writing either via fax 919-537-3098 or email [email protected]. The cancellation request must include: the name of the activity, name of the person registered, name of the person requesting the cancellation, and the reason for the cancellation. No refunds will be issued after Friday, April 1, 2016. The UNC School of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education Program cannot be responsible for the refund of any part of the registration fee as a result of emergencies, unforeseen circumstances, or events beyond its control after the cancellation date.

The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will fully refund registration fees but is not responsible for any related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines, rental car or travel agencies.

Special dietary requirements will be honored whenever possible. Please be sure to notify our office in writing of your special need no later than Friday, April 1, 2016.

About the Speakers (All are alumni of the UNC School of Dentistry graduate program in Pediatric Dentistry)

William L. Chambers, DDS, MS, Asheville, NCDr. Chambers is the senior member of a multispecialty pediatric dentistry and orthodontic practice in Asheville, NC. Dr. Chambers also has a satellite office in Waynesville, NC. He received his DDS and MS in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry. In addition to being a proud former member of the UNC-CH basketball team with Coach Dean Smith, he has also been a very creative and innovative pediatric dentist. Dr. Chambers has been out in front addressing early

dental home issues and infant breast feeding concerns in his practice. He will be sharing his experience with us.

E. LaRee Johnson, DDS, MS, Raleigh, NC Dr. Johnson maintains a private pediatric dentistry practice in Raleigh, NC. She received her DDS from the University of Tennessee and her MS and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry. Dr. Johnson has a highly innovative driven practice and has brought technology to the forefront of her practice. Dr. Johnson is on the Examining Committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In addition to her busy private practice, she maintains a

rigorous marathon/triathlon schedule with her husband and children. Marshalling her time and energy is paramount to insuring that she keeps her work, training and home life well balanced. She will share the keys to making all this work.

Dorothy T.Y. Pang, DDS, MS, San Francisco, CADr. Pang has a private practice of pediatric dentistry. She holds a BDS from King’s College School of Medicine and Dentistry-University of London, and a DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Dr. Pang earned a MS in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. She holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Growth and Development, University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Pang serves on the Examining

Committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is a sought after speaker on the use of conscious sedation in pediatric dentistry.

Kate M. Pierce, DDS, MPH, Greensboro, NCDr. Pierce practices pediatric dentistry in Greensboro, NC. She received her DDS and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry, and her MPH from the UNC School of Public Health. Dr. Pierce holds an Adjunct Faculty appointment in the UNC Department of Pediatric Dentistry. She has incorporated the use of Zirconia crowns in her practice and is well qualified to share her experience with this new restorative option.

Sigurdur R. Saemundsson, DDS, MPH, PhD, MBA, Reykjavik, IcelandDr. Saemundsson is the Chair of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iceland School of Dentistry and maintains a private practice of pediatric dentistry in Reykjavik. He received his DDS from the University of Iceland, his MPH and PhD (epidemiology) from the UNC School of Public Health, and a certificate in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry. Dr. Saemundsson also holds an MBA (international relations and

human resource management) from the University of Reykjavik. He has done research in the field of caries risk assessment and will share his expertise on this complex issue.

Topic titles are: Caries Risk Assessment: Extremely Useful or Just Plain Hogwash?; You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know; Zirconia Crowns: An Esthetic Alternative to Stainless Steel Crowns for Primary Teeth; Cultivating Your 5 Keys to Clinical Harmony; and Update on Conscious Sedation.

ObjectivesThe information presented at this educational activity should improve your ability to:

1. Evaluate the usefulness, accuracy and practicality of caries risk assessment tools developed by national and international organizations.

2. Identify the maternal and breast feeding issues and anatomy that indicate the need for early intervention.

3. Describe the protocol for laser frenotomies for infants.

4. Review the proper clinical technique to successfully use Zirconia prefabricated crowns to restore primary teeth.

5. Enhance parent satisfaction and guide cooperation of your pediatric patients.

6. Review current conscious sedation protocols and guidelines for safe administration of medications.

About the Speakers (All are alumni of the UNC School of Dentistry graduate program in Pediatric Dentistry)

William L. Chambers, DDS, MS, Asheville, NCDr. Chambers is the senior member of a multispecialty pediatric dentistry and orthodontic practice in Asheville, NC. Dr. Chambers also has a satellite office in Waynesville, NC. He received his DDS and MS in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry. In addition to being a proud former member of the UNC-CH basketball team with Coach Dean Smith, he has also been a very creative and innovative pediatric dentist. Dr. Chambers has been out in front addressing early

dental home issues and infant breast feeding concerns in his practice. He will be sharing his experience with us.

E. LaRee Johnson, DDS, MS, Raleigh, NC Dr. Johnson maintains a private pediatric dentistry practice in Raleigh, NC. She received her DDS from the University of Tennessee and her MS and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry. Dr. Johnson has a highly innovative driven practice and has brought technology to the forefront of her practice. Dr. Johnson is on the Examining Committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In addition to her busy private practice, she maintains a

rigorous marathon/triathlon schedule with her husband and children. Marshalling her time and energy is paramount to insuring that she keeps her work, training and home life well balanced. She will share the keys to making all this work.

Dorothy T.Y. Pang, DDS, MS, San Francisco, CADr. Pang has a private practice of pediatric dentistry. She holds a BDS from King’s College School of Medicine and Dentistry-University of London, and a DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Dr. Pang earned a MS in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. She holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Growth and Development, University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Pang serves on the Examining

Committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is a sought after speaker on the use of conscious sedation in pediatric dentistry.

Kate M. Pierce, DDS, MPH, Greensboro, NCDr. Pierce practices pediatric dentistry in Greensboro, NC. She received her DDS and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry, and her MPH from the UNC School of Public Health. Dr. Pierce holds an Adjunct Faculty appointment in the UNC Department of Pediatric Dentistry. She has incorporated the use of Zirconia crowns in her practice and is well qualified to share her experience with this new restorative option.

Sigurdur R. Saemundsson, DDS, MPH, PhD, MBA, Reykjavik, IcelandDr. Saemundsson is the Chair of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iceland School of Dentistry and maintains a private practice of pediatric dentistry in Reykjavik. He received his DDS from the University of Iceland, his MPH and PhD (epidemiology) from the UNC School of Public Health, and a certificate in pediatric dentistry from the UNC School of Dentistry. Dr. Saemundsson also holds an MBA (international relations and

human resource management) from the University of Reykjavik. He has done research in the field of caries risk assessment and will share his expertise on this complex issue.

TIME & LOCATIONThe program will be held at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education. Registration will begin at 8:30am. The program will be held from 9:00am – 4:35pm. The Friday Center is located on Friday Center Drive just off Highway 54 on the east side of Chapel Hill. Parking permits are required at the Friday Center and will be emailed to you with your course confirmation.

Course DescriptionThis activity will share with participants current clinical information from knowledgeable, private practicing pediatric dentists from North Carolina, California and Iceland. The speakers will share their own experiences and practical solutions for targeted and specific issues. Topic titles are: Caries Risk Assessment: Extremely Useful or Just Plain Hogwash?; You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know; Zirconia Crowns: An Esthetic Alternative to Stainless Steel Crowns for Primary Teeth; Cultivating Your 5 Keys to Clinical Harmony; and Update on Conscious Sedation.

ObjectivesThe information presented at this educational activity should improve your ability to:

1. Evaluate the usefulness, accuracy and practicality of caries risk assessment tools developed by national and international organizations.

2. Identify the maternal and breast feeding issues and anatomy that indicate the need for early intervention.

3. Describe the protocol for laser frenotomies for infants.

4. Review the proper clinical technique to successfully use Zirconia prefabricated crowns to restore primary teeth.

5. Enhance parent satisfaction and guide cooperation of your pediatric patients.

6. Review current conscious sedation protocols and guidelines for safe administration of medications.
