A Report on Works Done With Jumucha EnterprisesBy CHIKWA MWANZASubmitted in partial fulfilment of the requirement of the industrial attachment courseStudent identity number: 11402286Date: 17th June, 2015.

AcknowledgementI would like to thank my employers of JUMUCHA ENTERPRISES LIMITED namely Mr Juma Chansa and Mr Joseph Mwanza for affording me an opportunity to work with them as their key personnel engaged to help the company participate in the bidding of various construction projects countrywide. The experience I have had allowed me to interact with other contractors throughout the country during the pre-tender stages of construction especially during the periods when site visits were conducted throughout the entire attachment period. This experience has given me a competitive edge as quantity surveyor with an opportunity to work independently as the company as the company had afforded me full responsibility prepare, sign and complete tender documents. Much of the help I needed was attained through interaction with my colleagues and classmates thus enabling me to take on leadership and decision making role in the company. I would further like to thank my friends and colleagues SAMPA CHISUMBE and ZACHARIAH NGAMBI for the indispensable knowledge I had assimilated from them that enabled me to carry out the bidding processes with great understanding of the works that were complex and difficult in my capacity. My deepest thanks goes out to my parents for their love, understanding and support.

INTRODUCTIONCOMPANY BACKGROUNDJumucha Enterprises Limited is a company that has been registered with national council for construction (NCC) grade 6 category B since 2004 and currently in 2015 with NCC category R. The company is situated in the town of Kalulushi and is run by Mr Juma Chansa and Mr Joseph Mwanza. The company has in the past years been specialized in the supply and delivery of HDPE pipes to mining companies. It was only recently that the company decided to diversify into construction works. Currently the company has managed to undertake one project under the ministry of education to construct a staff house at Twalubuka Secondary School in Chambishi of which my first work experience was built.WORK EXPERIENCEEXPERIENCE FROM FIRST WORKSThe ministry of education earlier this year had invited suitable bidders to take interest in the tendering of works in two townships namely Chambishi and Chibuluma. It is with the above mentioned that Jumucha Enterprises limited had taken keen interest to participate in the tender for a 1 x 3 classroom block and a staff house in each of the two townships. These works called for my attention in the month of March of which my first works began with site visitations in each of the town townships prior to the bidding stages. My works were then followed by pricing bill of quantities that where obtained in each of the two townships to enable us to bid as requested. I therefore went ahead with the preparation of full tender documents which were followed by a bid submission and opening on the 20th day of March 2015. We were awarded a contract a few weeks later to construct a teachers staff house in Chambishi Township which is currently an ongoing project.EXPERIENCE FROM SECOND WORKSThe Road Development Agency on the 20th day of March had invited suitable bidders in an issue of the Daily Mail Newspapers allowing qualified bidders to express their interest in road projects that involved the routine maintenance of trunk and main and district roads in Northen Province using funds approved in the Road Sector Annual Work Plan (RSAWP) for 2015. The need to express such interest was marched by my awareness to travel to the Northen Province of Zambia to attend site visits for the advertised lots to enable us participate in the advertised projects. The main areas I visited during this event are highlighted in the following programme:DISTRICTLOT NO.LENGTH (KM)FROMTODATE

OTHER WORKS In the month of April, World Vision Zambia had invited bidders to express interest in the tender for construction of various community development projects in various parts of the country. As company representative of Jumucha Enterprises, I was called to attend site visits for the construction of a teachers staff house and a 1 x 3 classroom block in Chongwe East and Chongwe South respectively. After the site visits had been completed. There was need to prepare tender documents for the two projects mentioned above and others which are as stated below. This was then followed by the submission of the bid on the 16th day of April 2015.The sum of works that were participated in can be highlighted as follows:

In pricing the Bills of Quantities and preparing the tender documents, I made visits to the following companies namely JIZAN construction and WHAKONG where I was welcomed by the individuals of names Zachariah Ngambi and Sampa Chisumbe respectively who gave me an in-depth source of knowledge that enabled me to the effectively execute the works at hand, other individuals who contributed to my knowledge of practical implementation of works include Francis Mushenya and Mike Phiri amongst the many others. All the works were done signed and sealed by me with through the power vested in me by the company.CONCLUSIONAll works performed during my industrial break contributed to my knowledge and understanding of works I was exposed to. Furthermore, this was a good opportunity for me to interact with different construction professionals from around the country who gave me a great source of knowledge and advice as to what the construction field had to offer. This experience gave me a great appreciation of the work out there in the construction field. Furthermore, this also prepared me to the day when I was to come and face the industry in readiness to build upon my career with a greater need to contribute to the industry and to the growth of our economy at large.
