Javier Torres, 3ºCCH B A Report on the Tarot Stand Introduction The aim of this report is to describe the services that took place in the Tarot Stand of the Swiss School’s Halloween of the present year. The price of the Stand and the preparations taken to run it will also be detailed in the pertinent paragraphs. The students responsible for the Stand were Karla and me (Javier). Services The Tarot Stand provided three main services for its customers: tarot readings, palm readings and limpias (a sort of ritual cleaning of the soul). Tarot readings were performed using a standard tarot deck from which the customer selected four random cards to be analysed and interpreted by the Stand’s attendant; the limpias were performed by placing a flower collar on the customer’s neck and chanting improvised melodies to him/her while playing two maracas wildly. Palm readings focused only on the most basic lines and mounts of the customer’s writing hand, which were also analysed and interpreted in a very general fashion. Chiromancy and tarot readings often yielded not so auspicious results for the customers, so it was not unusual for the interpreters to modify the predictions as to make them appear more favourable. Preparation To build the Stand, chairs and unfolded tables were stacked on top of each other, clothes were then draped over the structure to make it look like a gypsy tent. As for the attendants, we read some articles on the internet about palmistry and tarot to have the basic knowledge of the services required to improvise them properly. Prices Services were charged differently depending on the amount of customers waiting outside the Stand. Entering the stand cost fifteen pesos; if business was thriving, only one service
