Considering the importance of research on the progress of the society, MHRD have taken
lot of initiative through National Mission on Education. One of such important initiative was
taken by MHRD to enhance the research skills of our faculty colleagues in Engineering and
Science Subjects. A two week mega workshop was conducted by IIT Bombay on “Introduction
to Research Methodology” at about 200 Remote Centers across the country.
We are glad to know that our Pillai’s Institute of Information Technology, Engineering,
media Studies and Research (PIIT) has fulfilled all the conditions of MHRD to become one of
important remote centre in the Navi Mumbai region. Around 92 participants have registered for
the workshop. Out of which around 60% of participants were from other institute.
The workshop covered many important topic related to research; such as Productive
Thinking Skills, Scientific Method and Experimentation Skills, Communication Skills – Written
and Oral Management of research – time management, stress management, professional ethics
etc. All the topics were delivered by the prominent professors of different IITs. The courses were
consisting of lectures and several interactive sessions. There were tutorials and practical sessions
wherein participants were get an opportunity to apply the research methodologies and skills
discussed, to address research problems. Participants have worked on several exercises
individually and in teams.
A fund of Rs. 2.5 lac has received from IIT Bombay to conduct the workshop. The fund
has been used for Registration kits for all the participants, printing, and photocopy, food
(Breakfast, Lunch and High tea) and in honorarium.
It was great challenge for the organizer to conduct such mega event for two week. One of
the major challenges for the organizer to maintain the time schedule since it was a live
telecasting programmed. Moreover, the monsoon in Mumbai has added to the trouble. In spite of
all the facts, the workshop ended with great success and all the participants and organizers have
enjoyed the workshop.
The charm of the workshop has enriched by the presence of our CEO Dr Vasudevan
Pillai, Chairman Dr Priyam Pillai, and Registrar Mr. Kumaran at valedictory function. On their
speech they have appreciated such workshop and also encourage the organizer to organize such
workshop in the future. Ultimately, the workshop was ended with a nice photo session.
