Inaugural Function:
Short Term Training Program on “Programmable Logic Controller and Process Instrumentation”
organized by Instrumentation and Control Engineering Department at L.D. College of Engineering
Ahmedabad from 15th June, 2015 to 19th June, 2015 at Annex Building, L.D. College of Engineering
Campus Ahmedabad.
Around 36 delegates comprising of faculties and students from various engineering colleges and
industry persons across Gujarat participated in this program. The programme was inaugurated on 15th
June, 2015 at 9:00am by our Chief Guest Mr. Mitin Patel (MD, Prima Automation Limited) in the
presence of Dr. Nishith Bhatt (Design Tech Limited), Dr. G. P. Vadodaria (Principal, LDCE) and other
dignitaries by lighting the lamp and prayer. All the dignitaries have delivered motivational and
inspirational speeches to all the participants.
Summary of the Programme:
Registration of all the participants for this STTP was started at 8.30 a.m on 15th june-2015 and
given training kits.
After inauguration and tea break, the first deliberation conducted by Dr. Nishith Bhatt on Introduction
of Faculties, Trainers, Course, Syllabus and DT's Vision. They also explained Overview of Automation
and Siemens family, Siemens Hardware Structure and Operating Principles of Programmable logic
controller and hands-on practical sessions on S7-300 were done.
On the second day, Mr. Hitesh explained bit logic instructions, timer and counter applications and
interrupts with hands-on practical. Participants had developed ladder diagrams logic for traffic light
system, car parking system etc.
On the third day, Dr. Nishith Bhatt and Mr. Hitesh explained about Data Block(DB), Fuction(FC),
System Function(SFC), Function Blocks(FB), Organization Blocks(OB), Task: Creation of FB, FC
and call by OB1, 3 motor operation logic by different call blocks, Loop and Sub-Routine Programming.
In the last session PID controllers programming and HMI Interfacings were done practically.
On the fourth day, Dr Nishith Bhatt gave Introduction of Fundamentals of Process Instrumentation.
And then the session started with Mr. Vivek and Mr. Yatish Sahu on temperature and pressure
measurement and parameterization. They also demonstrated the communication of the sensors using
HART and PROFIBUS Protocol.
On the last day, session started with Mr. Vivek and Mr. Yatish Sahu on Flow and Level Measurement
and Parameterization and the Communication of the Sensors using HART and PROFIBUS Protocol.
This was followed by demonstrating the feedback loop using PLC.
The program ended with the valedictory speech by principal, Convenor and coordinator of the program
and distribution of the certificates to the participants.
All the participants have taken sincere interest to learn PLC and Process Instrumentation during all the
five days from morning 9.00 a.m. to 5.0 p.m. for four sessions each day. As a course study material,
few PLC simulators and PLC book were given to all participants, so they could continue to update
their interest to work and update their teaching learning process with PLC and PI subject area.
