2. SOSOMA Porridge Program
.
Volume: A census carried out in December 2011 showed 30 children were SEVERELY malnourished. Last week,
18 children required 7 days inpatient admission for milk based diet locally known as F75. The government provides
2kg SOSOMA flour/week. But, there are doubts as to whether the sick child gets any of that.
Plan: Head nurse talks suggest 2 daily SOSOMA porridge centres. Children to be weighed weekly by Community
Health Visitors to assess impact. Attendance to be checked against RSVP Register.
A. Record High New Sponsorships
In January 2012, new S1 sponsorships totaled
eleven. About a half (n=5) are from Harlaw
Academy, Aberdeen, Scotland. Wonderful…!
B. Fair, Open & Transparent Selection
Rwanda is rebuilding itself after the 1994
bloodbath. The daunting task of selecting the
poor from poor , if not open and transparent,
can easily, wrongly but dangerously, be
perceived as favoring some and not others.
Our selection process is available HERE.

Kwizera
Hands Around the World, HATW, Jersey team,
sponsors 4 pupils from Muko School (Moses, Joel,
Rehema & Asifiwe) and 2 teachers for university. In
2012, they kindly added 2 further pupils (Esther and
Zubeda – not shown).
Over three quarters of each of 5 village primary
school pupils go to Muko after P6. These are the
children who don’t achieve the much coveted
boarding school grades.
At S3 level, pupils have a second chance to join
boarding schools, and Moses has done just that.
RSVP is very pleased with the growing
partnership between HATW and Muko School.
