Dear Parents:

Through a partnership with the Division of Advanced Stud-ies and Programs of Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts has agreed to allot 20% of its annual enrollment for classes offered to school-aged children as part of AACPS Student Scholarship Program. Only students who qualify for free and reduced meals (FARMS) are eli-gible for the this program.

Please review the following information and the course offer-ings in this booklet carefully. The application must be com-pleted in full and include your student ID number. Class choice should be based on your child’s area of interest and age range. A second choice is strongly encouraged.

Important information about the AACPS Student Scholarship Program at Maryland Hall:

• Students who are placed in MHCA classes will receive a confirmation letter from Maryland Hall within ten days of the application deadline.

• Materials fee for the instructor will be covered by the schol-arship.

• Class information is subject to change, please refer to the MHCA website for updates.

• MHCA classes are subject to cancellation when insufficient enrollment occurs. There are no exchanges or substitutes for cancelled classes.

• Placement is not guaranteed via application only (you must receive a confirmation letter to have placement).

Applications deadline: Friday, August 9 at 3:00 p.m. Advanced Co-Curricular Programs Office (fax: 410-222-5608).

This class offers a fun introduction to drawing techniques with a new technique or material covered each week. We will have a Student Art Show on the last day of class, additional information tba.

This class offers a fun introduction to acrylic painting with daily lessons on color mixing and painting, fur, feathers, clouds, oceans and many other subjects. Students must bring photos of their subject to class the first day. No portraits please. Subjects may be animals, still life or landscape. Please bring a snack and a drink daily. We will have a Student Art Show the last day of class.

Use recycled glass to create a sea of fun. Here is another pet that does not need your steady attention. No need to clean the tank! We will teach you the basics of how to use cold sheet glass and assemble a project designed by you: a one-of-a-kind every time. Using a variety of fused glass techniques, you will choose the colors and patterns. Parent and child will work together to create a glass suncatcher. After you design the piece, we will fire the design in our kiln and have it ready to pick up at our studio one week from the day of your class.

Bring your favorite fantasy characters to life using recycled glass. Parent and child will work together to create glass suncatchers. Glass classes are designed to bring out the creativity and imagina-tion in each student. Bring inspirational images for reference. After you design the piece, we will fire the design in our kiln and have it ready to pick up at our studio one week from the day of your class.

Beginner class for all ages including how to decorate and layer the art glass using stencils, stringers, confetti, repurposed glass, and frit to form a beautiful Sushi /Appetizer plate with companion Wasabi or sauce dish just in time for the Holidays. Simple instruc-tions helps Parent and Child create these plates by designing from their own imagination, with help as needed from instruc-tor. No experience necessary for this 2 hour class. No cutting required. (Chopsticks not included.)

Children of all ages will enjoy working with a parent to arrange brightly colored pieces of glass which will be heated in a kiln to fuse them together to make glass ornaments and Holiday gifts. Projects will require overnight cooling and will be available for pick up the following week.

Come joins us as we draw landscape es of towering castles, lost cities under the sea, and much more. This class teaches students traditional drawing and painting skills by challenging young artists to think, sketch, and paint fantastical places and things . Children will learn to transform their world from ordinary to extraordinary by using tempera, acrylic, and watercolor paint to create their own fantasy art on canvas. New projects for 2019! No class 10/9.

Your aspiring builder will love creating sculptures in this course about making art in three dimensions. Paper-mâché, recycled sculpture, and modeling clay abound in this fun-filled exploration of sculpture. Students will model, carve, and assemble original artworks while developing a deep understanding of important art concepts like scale, texture, and form. New projects for returning students in 2019. No class 11/27.

An exploration of numerous printmaking approaches for kids, using eco-safe materials, water based inks with none of the harsh chemicals often associated with traditional printmaking. Young artist will delight in cranking their work through an etching press and experiencing the magic moment when they pull their paper aside to reveal the resulting print! Techniques will include drypoint etching, colographs and monoprints.

This class helps the young artist form a base for drawing skills so that they can use this information to enhance their drawings. Students will have weekly lessons and new materials to work with on subjects of their choice as well as class subjects. Students will work in pencil, charcoal, oil pastel and colored pencil. We will have a Student Art Show the last day of class, additional information tba.

This class will start with mixing acrylic paints to create new colors for seasons, weather effects, oceans, clouds, fur, feathers and more. Students will pick their own subject matter for their painting. Photos are a must, and should be in hand for the second class. No Ipads or Phone photos please. We will have a Student Art show on the last day of class. Students will have an chance to work on an easel with a stretched canvas in this class.

Find your style! You will learn how to draw fashion models for all types of clothing. Mix and match fabric textures and garments to create a new twist to your own wardrobe. Learn how to mix colors like a pro and create a new fad to share with your friends. Bring your ideas to class on the first day. You will also need a pair of shoes, old tennis shoes or similar, to decorate in class. We will have a Fashion Show the last class.

Learners will explore multiple ways of creating a moving image. Watch in amazement as your artful drawings come to life through stop motion/Claymation, flip books, and hand drawn animation. Students will work both individually and collaboratively. All artists will take home a hand drawn frames and a digital compilation of all their works at the end of the course. This course features new and challenging projects for returning students.

Learn to draw people and their portraits with ease in this course. Young artists will master facial features and figures in both abstract, illustrated, and realistic styles. Through sketchbook journaling, and final drawings and paintings, learners will be able to confidently develop and draw their very own characters, and portraits of the people most important to them. New and return-ing students welcome as this course features all new artworks for 2019. No class 11/30.

Learn the basic planes/forms, proportions and anatomy of the human figure. Drawing from life (clothed model) you will learn techniques to capture the action of the pose. Working in charcoal you will practice quick gesture drawing and move into longer poses studying form using light and shade with an emphasis on composition. Referencing works of the masters will be part of the curriculum.

Theatre

F1910135 | Musical Autist TroupeAges: 8–14 | MT–BC C.J. Shiloh

Led by a Board Certified Music Therapist, this inclusive group of teens and young adults with and without disabilities will have the opportunity to build relationships while working toward perfor-mance opportunities. Previous music skills are a benefit, though not required. Mentor Musicians, ranging from high school/college interns to local performing artists, volunteer their time and musi-cal expertise to help the Troupe rehearse and sound amazing!

Each week, time is spent together doing Song Shares, which can be either recorded (Spotify, YouTube, etc) or a piece that is per-formed live for the group. Participants and volunteers will explore and rehearse several songs that will be performed in spring events that are facilitated by The Musical Autist nonprofit, including Open Mic Nights in the Maryland Hall Cafe, Empowerment Jam Sessions and Sensory Friendly Concerts.
