Protecting Yourself from Financial Fraud in the Electronic Age
Hardly a day goes by that one doesn’t hear about financial fraud disrupting lives. Disputing fraudulent activity and cleaning up the financial mess takes time and energy. Making this chore even more daunting, are the time limits on protection. While consumers have up to 60 days to dispute fraudulent activity, commercial customers must report the fraud within 24 hours to avoid absorbing any loss. At Bank of New Hampshire, your community banker works with customers to mitigate the opportunities criminals have to access accounts. There are several fraud protection methods that every business should consider to keep themselves financially secure.1. Bank with a community institution who knows your pattern
and routines. Although in this electronic age you may never need to visit the physical location of your bank, your banker should know your financial patterns to help prevent fraud by verifying suspicious or irregular activity.
2. Become an ACH originator. While many of the folks you do business with request you turn over your account and routing numbers, turn the tables and increase your financial safety by becoming an ACH originator yourself. By initiating the electronic transfer of funds, you keep your precious account information confidential and accelerate the rate of payment.
3. Create a white list to keep unwelcome hands off your funds. If you must give out your account and routing numbers to others, create a protective barrier by using ACH filter. This product allows you to declare welcome financial transactions and create alerts when someone outside your approved list tries to access your funds.
4. Eliminate fraudulent check writing or replication. For those who write checks, especially in large volumes, employ positive pay to prevent fraudulent checks being drawn on your account. As checks clear, they are matched to an approved list uploaded by the customer to verify they are legitimate. While it is challenging to stay ahead of today’s white collar
criminals, your community banker is ready to help reduce exposure to financial fraud and keep your account safe.

Woodman Museum Celebrates 100 YearsBy Karen Dandurant, Foster’s Daily Democrat
A lovely garden party was held July 23rd as staff and guests gathered on the lawn of the Woodman Museum to celebrate their Centennial event.
In addition to the centennial, the night celebrated Thom Hindle, curator of the museum for 40-years. He is planning to retire and said he felt the museum’s 100th anniversary was a good time to do it.
Mayor Karen Weston read a proclamation honoring Hindle.“I have known Thom for many years and can offer some
good personal comments as well,” Weston said before her speech. “He has contributed so much to this museum.”
Hindle said he chose the retirement date, but will probably still help out here and there.
“I started in 1976, as a volunteer, but really I have been hanging around here ever since I was a kid,” said Hindle. “I first helped organize lectures at the high school and arranged the exhibits. As a kid we used to ride our bikes here to see the ten-foot polar bear and to go face to face with the alligator. I love this place.”
Hindle said he will miss sharing his knowledge of the collections with today’s youth, and with visitors who come from all over the country, 40 states a year per average.
Cliff Blake of New Hampshire Public Television served as Master of Ceremonies for the night. Mike Gillis and Judi Currie entertained through dinner with offerings of music and movie clips through the decades the museum has been open.

Successful Summer at the Dover Chamber Visitor Center!
The Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center enjoyed a busy summer season that ushered in hundreds of visitors exploring Dover for the first time, returning to spend time with family and friends, or checking out Dover as a place to relocate or retire. The Dover Chamber Visitor Center is chock full of literature provided by members which is then distributed by staff and volunteers while attending to visitors and residents who come through our doors.
We are very grateful to all our Visitor Center volunteers who donate their time and energy to take care of those who come in looking for local services, things to do, transportation, directions, lodging and much more. The following volunteers do a fabulous job supporting Chamber staff!

MEMBER NEWSKelly Doherty Receives 2016 Ira Byock and Yvonne Corbeil Award
Kelly Doherty, RN-C, MSN, ARNP-BC was presented with the 2016 Ira Byock and Yvonne Corbeil Award on Friday, June 24, at the Annual Meeting of the NH Home Care Association and NH Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. This annual award is given to an individual, team or organization in Northern New England who has demonstrated innovation and collaboration to improve quality, expand access, and/or increase efficiency in delivering the best end-of-life care possible to New Hampshire residents.
2016 award recipient, Kelly Doherty, is the Director of the Palliative Care Program at Cornerstone VNA and has been instrumental in its success since the inception of the program in September 2014. In her role, she serves as a liaison to local area hospitals and collaborates with assisted living facilities and skilled nursing facilities to ensure that the Palliative Care Program is meeting the needs of the community. Additionally, Kelly serves on the Cornerstone VNA Medical Directors’ team and trains all Cornerstone VNA Home Care nurses in pain and symptom management.
WDH CEO New Board Chair of Granite HealthGranite Health has announced
Gregory J. Walker, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital as its board chair following the retirement of Thomas E. Wilhelmsen, Jr. Walker is a founding member of Granite Health and has provided valuable insight to the organization since its inception in 2011.
“We are excited to have Greg serve as our board chair. He has been a leader and advocate for Granite Health since our founding and has played an integral role in advancing our mission by embracing innovative ideas that continue to improve health care delivery in our state,” said Rachel Rowe, President and CEO at Granite Health.
Granite Health’s Board of Directors is comprised of the CEOs who represent each of Granite Health’s member health systems including Joseph Pepe, MD at Catholic Medical Center, Robert P. Steigmeyer at Concord Hospital, Kevin W. Donovan at LRGHealthcare, Michael Rose at Southern New Hampshire Health, and Gregory J. Walker at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
Bill Dube Breaks Ground on New DealershipBy Nik Beimler, Fosters Daily Democrat
Bill Dube Ford Toyota Tuesday celebrated the groundbreaking of its new dealership on Dover Point Road.
The new facility will be located right next to the current building, and will almost double the size of the dealership.
“We look forward to finishing it up and moving into the new building and continuing to be a part of the City of Dover, as well as Ford and Toyota,” said Debbie Dube Reed, president of Bill Dube Ford Toyota.
The project will be completed in two phases, with the building of the new dealership followed by the demolition of the existing facility and construction of a new stormwater infiltration system.
“It’s incredible the long-term commitment companies like this are making to Dover,” said state Sen. David Watters, D-District 4, who attended the event. “They could be anywhere and they choose to be here. … It really shows the commitment the city has to being business-friendly.”
Dover Economic Development Director Daniel Barufaldi said the new, larger facility opens the door for more service space and more jobs for people in Dover.
The company expects the new dealership to allow for six new tech positions, six to 10 new salesperson opportunities, and the possibility of another service advisor and several new administrative staff members.
“It will also make the area more attractive for car buyers,” Barufaldi said. “More people will come to Dover looking for a car, and may stop at our restaurants, get gas or stop downtown. It’s a magnet to Dover.”

Dover Adult Learning Center is taking learning out of the classroom and into the community with training offered to local companies to support the professional development of their employees.
Nancy Little, a Microsoft Certified Trainer with 15 years of teaching experience, said when she gets a call from a company to request training, she first meets with management to determine their needs and expectations. This often leads to an assessment of potential students that enables us to deliver the appropriate level of instruction.
Along with offering standard, multi-level Microsoft Office classes, Dover Adult Learning is able to be very responsive and flexible in the format, duration and content of classes, maximizing the effect of the learning experience. And when management is able to support the learning by allowing for some practice time, they find that new skills are easily recalled and immediately engaged. Custom classes can target the immediate needs of the workforce. John Simmers, of Jaeger TTC, says that Nancy tailored the class to the wants and the needs of the company and DALC offered the most competitive rates in town.
DALC is also able to provide consulting and post-class assistance. In addition, we may incorporate your company email branding and technology policies, as requested.
Companies not equipped with a hands-on computer training facility can make arrangements for the use of the computer lab at the McConnell Center. “We find that in-person training allows us to target skills to individual and company needs. The teacher can immediately respond to a hurdle and help the student over it. This makes training more efficient and effective, and allows us to keep our prices low”, says Deanna Strand, Director of Dover Adult Learning Center.
Community Supports Seacoast Cancer Center
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s Seacoast Cancer Center recently received sizable donations from two well-known community members. The first came from a fundraising event presented by Platinum Productions, LLC. Prom for a Purpose was held on June 4th at Blue Latitudes in downtown Dover and was a night filled with fun and purpose. Carrie Alex, founder of Platinum Productions, LLC, was proud to present a check for $2,600 to the Seacoast Cancer Center from the event. Planning is already underway for next year’s prom.
Tom Levasseur, president of The Beacon Retirement Group, recently presented the Seacoast Cancer Center with $2,500 from the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation. Tom has been an active member of the Million Dollar Round Table for the last 27 years. The MDRT Foundation has donated more than $30 million in grants worldwide.
Great Bay Services Announces New LocationSince 1954,
adults with developmental and acquired disabilities have relied on the unique set of individualized programs, services, and recreational activities, available both to them and to the community at large, through Great Bay Services (GBS).
Those critical programs and services are now being offered from a new home as Great Bay Services has finalized the sale of their flagship property and moved into new program space located just a few miles from their former home at 23 Cataract Avenue in Dover, NH, the former Macintosh College facility.
Totaling nearly 10,000 square feet, all administration offices and program space will be housed under one roof in order to better align with the expanding needs of the individuals, families and wider community GBS serves.
Federal Savings Supports Zebra CrossingsZebra Crossings is pleased to announce a $5,000 donation from
Federal Savings Bank to support the summer day camp program. Zebra Crossings mission is to empower children with a chronic health
condition such as diabetes, asthma, juvenile arthritis, and epilepsy to discover what they are capable of achieving and to be part of a supportive peer community. Astrid Wielens, Executive Director of Zebra Crossings, said, “We are very grateful to receive this generous donation. Federal Savings Bank’s loyal support over the last four years enables us to continue to grow our programs. The demand for our programs is increasing as families have limited options to find a program that understands and supports the medical needs of their child.
