Use these tips to help reduce your waste this holiday season! Get creative with your wrapping paper by reusing things like maps, the Sunday comics, and posters. About 40% of all battery sales occur during the holiday season. This year, switch to reusable batteries. Consider giving an experience instead of an object. The gift of your time (cooking, babysitting, gardening) a charitable donation, or tickets to an event are all great gift ideas that require little to no packaging. Don’t forget your reusable shopping bags. And when the holidays are over, remember that wrapping paper, greeting cards, tissue paper, and cardboard boxes can all be recycled in your blue recycle carts! FREE CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING We will be collecting Christmas trees free of charge after the holidays. To have your tree recycled please bring it to the curbside on your green waste collection day. If you do not have green waste service, bring your tree to the curbside on your trash collection day. SPECIAL COLLECTION EVENT FOR CITY OF BUELLTON RESIDENTS!

When used in ideal conditions, batteries are not considered to be dangerous. However, batteries contain hazardous acid and emit flammable gases, so they must be handled with care. Lithium batteries are commonly used to power items like smartphones, watches, fitness trackers, toothbrushes, and toys. These powerful batteries are especially dangerous for waste haulers because they are easily damaged and can spark fires. The simple jostling of a battery inside a collection truck is enough to ignite a flame. In a truck or facility full of paper, cardboard, and other flammable materials, any fire can be deadly, so please dispose of all batteries properly.

• Place common household batteries (with a power of 9 volts or less) in a zip-top plastic bag ON TOP of your recycling container on your recycling collection day. For rechargeable batteries, please tape the ends of each battery to limit the risk of fire.

• Rechargeable, non-rechargeable, and automotive batteries can all be dropped off at MarBorg’s recycling centers (132 Nopalitos Way in Santa Barbara and 20 David Love Place in Goleta).

• If your residence provides an orange battery bucket, please dispose of used batteries in the bucket for MarBorg to collect.

• Stores that sell rechargeable batteries are required by law to accept used rechargeable batteries.
