Hershey Federal Credit Union offers one of the premier First Mortgage Programs in the country. The program includes Conventional, FHA, VA, PHFA, USDA, and Construction loans. The available financing options will allow you to buy your dream home or reduce your monthly housing expenses with the assistance of an experienced team of dedicated mortgage professionals. The team has been nationally recognized in mortgage publications and averages 17 years of First Mortgage experience. Hershey has assembled this team to serve you, the member. As with any product you are offered at Hershey FCU, you will receive a mortgage financing option at a great rate with low fees. Our team will help you understand the process of homeownership and walk you down the path of the right financial solution. When shopping for the best mortgage, knowing the facts will help members obtain the right loan for their particular situation. A great place to start is by gaining an understanding of the differences between a fixed-rate and an adjustable-rate mortgage.

Fixed Rate MortgageThese are predictable mortgages with repayment terms usually stretching 15, 20 or 30 years. What makes them predictable? Both the interest rate and the monthly payments remain fixed throughout the life of the loan. Many members opt for a fixed-rate mortgage if they are purchasing a new home during a time when interest rates are low. Regardless, some people simply appreciate knowing what their monthly bill is going to be each month.

Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM)In comparison to fixed-rate mortgages, adjustable-rate mortgages usually start at a lower rate that is fixed for a period of time, usually 5 years. When the rate increases or decreases (usually after 5 years), so does the mortgage payment. As with any product you’re offered at Hershey FCU, you will have a great rate with low fees. Our team will help you understand the process of home ownership and walk you down the path to finding the right financial solution because you’re family! What is Phishing?Phising is when internet fraudsters impersonate a business or government entity to trick you into giving out your personal information. Never reply to email, text, or pop-up messages that ask for your personal or financial information.

How to Deal with Phishing Scams• Delete email and text messages that ask you to confirm or provide personal information (credit card and bank account numbers, Social Security numbers, passwords, etc.). Legitimate companies don’t ask for this information via email or text.• The messages may appear to be from organizations you do business with - financialinstitutions, for example. They might threaten to close your account or take other action if you don’t respond.• Don’t reply, and don’t click on links or call phone numbers provided in the message, either. These messages direct you to spoof sites – sites that look real but whose purpose is to steal your information so a scammer can run up bills or commit crimes in your name.• Area codes can mislead, too. Some scammers ask you to call a phone number to update your account or access a “refund.” But a local area code doesn’t guarantee that the caller is local.• If you’re concerned about your account or need to reach an organization you do business with, call the number on your financial statements or on the back of your credit card.

EMV Check CardComing this Spring, all members who have an active HFCU Check Card will be receiving a new EMV chip-enabled HFCU VISA Check Card.

This new card is the first re-design of our check card in almost 18 years and features the latest in card security with the new EMV chip.

Please activate your new card as soon as you receive it. For security reasons, if you do not activate your card within a few weeks of receiving it, both your new card and your existing card will be temporarily blocked (unable to perform transactions) until you activate the new card. Once your new card is activated, your old card will be de-activated and you should destroy it.

The new cards will come with new PINs. You will receive the PIN mailer a few days after you receive the card. If you would like to change your PIN from the randomly-generated one, you can do so by calling 1-877-746-6746. If you call to change your PIN within 14 days of receiving your new card (which must be activated first), you will not be charged the standard $5 PIN change fee.

After activating your new card, you should use the EMV purchase option wherever it is available, but the “swipe & sign” option will also work for those merchants who have yet to convert to the chip technology.

If you have any questions about the new cards, please call, email or stop by any HFCU office.
