EMPLOYMENT PROFILE OF PAKISTAN

Pakistan is the sixth most populated country in the world having a population of 167 Million, as estimated by the Population Census Organization. The estimated labor force is 51.78 million (32.2% participation rate). Labour force comprises all persons ten years of age and above, who fulfill the requirements for including among employed or unemployed. According to this concept, the employed labor force is 49.09 million (unemployed –2.69 million) and more than half of the population is concentrated in the rural areas. Of the employed labour force, women constitute only 20% (10 million). Agriculture sector employs 44% of the labor force, second to it is services sector (employing 35%); industry and manufacturing employ only 20% of the labor force. Formal sector accounts for only 27% of economic activity while informal sector is catering to more than 70% of the activity outside agriculture.

Artistic Fabric Mills' is a manufacturer of high quality fashion denim fabric in Pakistan. Our denim mill is equipped with state of the art machinery and a production capacity of 20mn meters of denim fabric per annum. 

AFM is structured as a vertical solution provider to create additional value to the buyer, and to ensure high quality control to make Denim fabric, all processed on high-tech modern machines. We also have a state of the art Garment Unit, to offer our clients a one roof service under constant monitoring of qualified textile technologists. 

Our Mill produces denim fabric under skilled professionals engaged in R&D to design innovative developments in the international market. In addition, we offer the flexibility to work directly with the designers and manufacture customized designs for our buyers. Our product line ranges from moderate to prestigious denims to cater to all clients.

LABOUR RIGHTS IN THE CONSTITUTION

The Constitution of Pakistan contains a range of provisions with regards to labour rights found in Part II: Fundamental Rights and Principles of Policy.

Article 11 of the Constitution prohibits all forms of slavery, forced labour and child labour; Article 17 provides for a fundamental right to exercise the freedom of association and the

right to form unions; Article 18 proscribes the right of its citizens to enter upon any lawful profession or

occupation and to conduct any lawful trade or business; Article 25 lays down the right to equality before the law and prohibition of discrimination on

the grounds of sex alone; Article 37(e) makes provision for securing just and humane conditions of work, ensuring that

children and women are not employed in vocations unsuited to their age or sex, and for maternity benefits for women in employment.

LABOUR LAW PRACTICES AT ARTISTIC FABRIC MILLS

IMPLEMENTAION OF FACTORIES ACT ;

Safe Work Practices;

Artistic has established and maintained all relevant Safe Work Practices as specified in the Twelve Schedule of Factories Act.

All Safe Work Practices have been clearly written in an easy to understand format and are being effectively communicated. Relevant persons have been briefed and trained on these SWPs.

A job hazard analysis or risk assessment is conducted before a specific Safe Work Practice is established to ensure that all potential hazards have been identified.

Safety Training;

Artistic Fabric Mills analysis the occupational safety and health training needs on safety and health for all workers including contractors.

At Artistic, a comprehensive safety-training program includes:

1. New employee orientation2. Refresher training3. Skills and functional training4. Manager training (e.g. auditing and accident investigation techniques)5. Contractor briefing and training

The line managers and supervisors are adequately trained so that they can effectively supervise and control workers’ behavior at the workplace. They are also responsible for identifying the types of training needs for their workers.
