Psalm 104 The Psalm is read responsively.

1 Bless the Holy One, O my soul; *bless the God of all creation.

2 You are clothed in beauty and splendor; *you wrap yourself with light as with a cloakand spread out the heavens like a canopy.

3 You lay the beams of your chambers in the waters above; *you make the clouds your chariot;you ride on the wings of the wind.

4 You make the winds your messengers; *flashes of lightning mark your way.

5 You have set the earth upon its foundations; *it shall never be moved.

6 You covered it with the seas as with a mantle; *the waters stood higher than the mountains.

7 At your rebuke, they fled; *at the voice of your thunder, they hastened away.

8 They went up into the hills and down to the valleys beneath, *to the place you established for them.

9 You set the boundaries; the waters shall not breach them; *never again shall they cover the earth.

25 O God, how manifold are your works! *in wisdom you have made them all;the earth is full of your creatures. Hallelujah!

A Reading from Hebrews [5:1-10]

Every high priest chosen from amongmortals is put in charge of thingspertaining to God on their behalf, to offer

gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to dealgently with the ignorant and wayward, since hehimself is subject to weakness; and because ofthis he must offer sacrifice for his own sins aswell as for those of the people. And one doesnot presume to take this honor, but takes itonly when called by God, just as Aaron was. Soalso Christ did not glorify himself in becominga high priest, but was appointed by the onewho said to him, “You are my Son, today I have

begotten you”; as he says also in another place,“You are a priest forever, according to theorder of Melchizedek.” In the days of his flesh,Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, withloud cries and tears, to the one who was ableto save him from death, and he was heardbecause of his reverent submission. Althoughhe was a Son, he learned obedience throughwhat he suffered; and having been madeperfect, he became the source of eternalsalvation for all who obey him, having beendesignated by God a high priest according tothe order of Melchizedek.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel [Mark 10:35-45]

Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to Mark.People: Glory to you, O Christ.

Diácono: Santo Evangelio de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo, según Marcos.Pueblo: ¡Gloria a ti, Cristo!

James and John, the sons of Zebedee, cameforward to Jesus and said to him, “Teacher,we want you to do for us whatever we askof you.” And he said to them, “What is it

you want me to do for you?” And they said tohim, “Grant us to sit, one at your right handand one at your left, in your glory.” But Jesussaid to them, “You do not know what you areasking. Are you able to drink the cup that Idrink, or be baptized with the baptism that I ambaptized with?” They replied, “We are able.”Then Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drinkyou will drink; and with the baptism with whichI am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at

my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has beenprepared.” When the ten heard this, they beganto be angry with James and John. So Jesus calledthem and said to them, “You know that amongthe Gentiles those whom they recognize astheir rulers lord it over them, and their greatones are tyrants over them. But it is not soamong you; but whoever wishes to becomegreat among you must be your servant, andwhoever wishes to be first among you must beslave of all. For the Son of Man came not to beserved but to serve, and to give his life aransom for many.”

The Sermon Please be seated.

Preacher: The Rev. Debbie Royals

A period of silence follows, marked with meditation bell.

The Nicene Creed Please stand, as you are able.

The Nicene Creed is a historical statement of faith used by the early Christian community to define orthodoxy. Please join us as you feel called.

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.

-9-

He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Filioque (Latin for “and the son”), the dogmatic formula expressing the double procession of the HolySpirit, was added to the Nicene Creed by the Western church.

Coffee and light refreshments are offered on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in McBride Hall. We havewonderfully generous members and talented bakers and we want to take advantage of both. So, in an effortto have the wealth spread evenly across the various Sundays each month, we’ll ask folks to provide goodiesbased on the first letter in their last names:

! The first Sunday of each month: last names that begin with letters A - F

! The second Sunday of each month: last names that begin with letters G - L

! The third Sunday of each month: last names that begin with letters M - R

! The fourth Sunday of each month: last names that begin with letters S - Z

Our hope is that by providing some sort of schedule, we will have something delicious to offer consistentlyand have every Sunday offer a feast rather than have uneven episodes of feasts and famines. Of course, anyoneinspired to share good food on additional Sundays is welcome to do so.
