We have already shown that we can make devolution work in our area through the programmes we have delivered locally, which have consistently outperformed their national equivalents. Our aim now is to build on this progress to realise the full extent of our shared vision for a strong, successful and socially inclusive economy.

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Chair of the Combined Authority and Leader of Bradford Metropolitan District Council

We have a big ambition to transform our economy for the benefit of everyone who lives and works here.

What is the Combined Authority? We want our region to be recognised globally as a strong, successful economy where everyone can build great businesses, careers and lives.

We bring together local councils and businesses to achieve this vision through projects and services that make lives here better.

Our work covers the 10 districts of Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Craven, Harrogate, Kirklees, Leeds, Selby, Wakefield and York.

We ensure that everyone in our region can benefit from a strong and successful economy through inclusive growth

We provide more access to job opportunities that will enable people and their families to get on – including more opportunities for skills, education and training

We build decent, affordable housing in prosperous, thriving communities with access to lower cost heating and energy

We deliver a fast, reliable transport network that enables people to travel around the region easily on good quality buses, trains, roads and cycleways

We help growing businesses to create more, better quality jobs for local people

We create a cleaner, greener environment with measures in place to prevent flooding and other issues linked to climate change

Our region is already an amazing place to live and work but by working together we want to make it even better:

In the last year, we began to deliver at an unprecedented scale and pace – but this is just the beginning. Here are some of our priorities for the next year:

What have we done so far? Here are some of the things we’ve achieved in the past year alone:

Opened two new train stations in the region – Low Moor in Bradford and Kirkstall Forge in Leeds – providing better transport links for local people

Invested £19 million in bus services for local communities to better meet the needs of our residents

Provided £10 million grant investment for small and medium sized businesses – set to create 1,340 local jobs

Recruited over 100 local business people to provide careers advice and inspiration to 130 schools

Secured an additional £67.5 million – part of a £1 billion-plus package of investment to transform the region’s economy and transport network

Securing further devolution of funding and powers to enable us to deliver more for the people who live and work in the region

Investing £100 million in train stations, highways and other measures to expand the City Region’s transport network

Creating and safeguarding over 2,100 jobs by helping businesses to grow and attracting new investment into the region

Supporting 6,000 disadvantaged pupils to improve their skills and career prospects through enterprise, employability and careers activity

Continuing our progress towards a more efficient smart ticketing system for our public transport system, enabling people to travel more easily and affordably
