What happens as we age?• Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a

naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps provide fullness and elasticity1

• As we age, skin loses HA1

• As HA diminishes, skin loses volume, increasing chances for wrinkles and folds to appear1

• Avoid touching the treated area within six hours following treatment so you do not accidentally injure your skin while the area is numb. After that, the area can be gently washed with soap and water

• Until any redness or swelling goes away, avoid exposure of the treated area to intense heat (sun lamp or sun bathing)

• If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your physician about medications that may minimize a recurrence

• Avoid taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site

Important Safety Considerations for Restylane and Perlane

After your treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days. Although rare, red or swollen small bumps may occur. If you have had facial cold sores before, an injection can cause another outbreak. In rare circumstances, the doctor may inject into a blood vessel, which can damage the skin. To avoid bruising and bleeding, you should not use either product if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years, you should not use Restylane or Perlane.

Page 29: A Patient’s Guide to Aesthetic Treatments€¦ · your specific needs, so the cost will vary from patient to patient • In general, the cost of a treatment is comparable to the

Important Safety Considerations for Restylane and Perlane

Restylane or Perlane should not be used by people with previous bad allergies, particularly to certain microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria; by people with previous bad allergies to drugs that have required in-hospital treatment; or by people with bleeding disorders. Injections should not be made anywhere except the skin or just under the skin.

Patients should be limited to 6.0 mL per treatment. The safety or effectiveness of Restylane and Perlane for the treatment of anatomic regions other than nasolabial folds have not been established in controlled clinical studies.

See Important Safety Considerations on Slides 28–30.

The use of Restylane or Perlane at the site of skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infection should be postponed until healing is complete. Use of either product in these instances could delay healing or make your skin problems worse.
