I will grant him length of days. Psalm 90.15-16 COMMUNION ANTIPHON One does not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God. Matthew 4.4 1st Reading: Genesis 9.8-15: In the aftermath of the flood, God establishes a covenant with Noah and his descendants. Covenantis simply another word for relationship—something from which God will never walk away. Response to the Psalm: Your ways, Lord, are faithfulness and love for those who keep your covenant. 2nd Reading: I Peter 3.18-22: Christ died to lead us to God. In this passage, the author sees the waters of the great flood as a symbol of baptism. It is these waters which give us spiritual cleansing and which assure us of Gods pledge to us. Praise to you, O Christ, king of eternal glory! Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Praise to you, O Christ, king of eternal glory! Mark 1.12-15: The story of Jesustemptation in Marks gospel is short and to the point. This spiritual strug- gle Jesus undergoes is presented as the prelude to the beginning of his ministry when he proclaims the presence of Gods kingdom. There is an urgency in Marks words, and they culmi- nate in Jesuscall to repentance and belief in the Good News. ———————————————————————————————————————————————– The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children Prolife Scotland invite you to join them in St Bride’s Hall, Motherwell on 19th February at 7pm as they make their tour of Scotland Please take the leaflet on Lent available in the porch if you haven’t already done so. This week we pray for a renewal of our lives. We are beginning to be more attentive and alert. We are trying new patterns. The difficulties we encounter keep us humble. Our desire is clear. We want the self-sacrificing love of Christ- which brings us mercy and healing - to be reproduced in our lives. In our journey, we seek to savour the meaning of Jesus' self-less love, that we might reflect that love to others. At the end of our journey, we will renew our baptismal promises. Dying with Jesus in baptism, we have a new life in him. Today, we desire nothing less than God's re-creating us - breathing new life into us. This prayer is taken from Creighton Universitys online ministries. Its a wonderful resource for Lent. A PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK IN LENT Bring us back to you. This week we pray for a renewal of our lives. We are beginning to be more attentive and alert. We are trying new patterns. The difficulties we encounter keep us humble.

Our desire is clear. We want the “self-sacrificing love of Christ” - which brings us mercy and healing - to be “reproduced in our lives.” In our journey, we seek to savour the meaning of Jesus' self-less love, that we might reflect that love to others. At the end of our journey, we will renew our baptismal promises. Dying with Jesus in baptism, we have a new life in him. Today, we desire nothing less than God's re-creating us - breathing new life into us.
