2008 Symphony BallSeptember 27, 2008Gay Drake, Chairman

The 2008 Symphony Ball “The Music of Mississippi” on September 27 was a great success! The Ball, an annual event since 1960, is the Jackson Symphony League’s largest fund-raiser. The Jackson Symphony League, the volunteer sup-port organization of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra (MSO), traditionally raises 10% of the MSO’s budget.

The Ball was an elegant event electric with the enthusiasm of over 300 symphony supporters who were met at the Country Club of Jackson’s entrance by candles suspended in glass vases and exquisite flower arrangements. Art and auction items were displayed while the MSO Brass Quintet, String Quartet, and Woodwind Quintet performed.

The evening of great music, good food, and generous friends continued with a de-licious dinner served in the ballroom with tables decorated with bunches of roses. During dessert Jim Wilkirson auctioned the coveted items including wonderful art, jewelry, vacation destinations, Viking appliances, and a standby generator! The festivities ended with dancing till midnight to the music of These Days.

The Jackson Symphony League thanks all who made the Ball a great success!

Membership CoffeeSeptember 18, 2008

The league’s membership coffee was held at the home of Samantha and Tim Porter in Montrose of Ridgeland. The home provided an exquisite background to present the art-work for the ball auction and the turn out was incredible. Members and prospective members visited and enjoyed delicious treats.
