A Note for FrontPage Users
MMIS/MCIS 656 – WEB DESIGN TECHNOLOGIES
Note on FPDr. N
FP set up for Nova server
Frontpage: suggestions A) If using NOVA server or another server
which doesn’t have FP extensions installed, set appropriate settings (Next Slide for screen shot)
WHY?– Prevents using features in FP that may not work
when moved to the server.
Front Page – Tools|Page Options|Compatibility tab
Uploading to Nova server
Two Options: A) Simple way: Use an FTP program
and upload files & directories. B) Use the “Publishing” features built
into Front Page – somewhat tricky, see next slides.
“Publishing” in Frontpage
Publish feature Moves the complete directory under a
“web”– Simplifies the file upload process.
Use the FTP option – not HTTP (not supported on our server)
– Instructions: File|Publish– To publish in a directory called dir_name, under
public_html, use: ftp://scis.nova.edu/~username/public_html/dir_Name
Publishing with FrontPage
In Future…
When we start with server-side (Cold Fusion), we will use another server – call it CFserver (Cold Fusion Server)
The CFserver will have FP extensions installed – no problem.
