Dear Milestones Community,It is heartening to have so many of our present and past families, Board Members, and members of our communities support our organization by attending tonight. A few years ago, our name changed from Connecticut Center of Child Development to Milestones Behavioral Services to better express our expansion of services. Our young students were growing up. Many had more than one special needs diagnosis or other health concerns. Behavior Analysis, has become a mainstream solution to all kinds of applications within and outside the field of special education, and its utility for the education and treatment of children with autism and other unique learning needs has become the cornerstone of effective individualized education plans. Milestones is continuing our mission of growing a comprehensive network of Behavior Analytic services under one roof.

Every day our committed Behavior Analysts, instructors, teachers, and others work with each student to meet their individual goals. Our Adult Day Program provides a place of dignity and purpose for our adults. This year we launched Milestones Family Services which provides Free Screenings for young children, an Early Intervention ABA Clinic, Parent Training and Multi-Cultural Outreach programs. We have increased our free training of First Responders. And, our Advanced Intervention Program continues to expand services to help children who require highly customized and expert services so that they can someday return to a less restrictive learning environment.

When a parent calls us with a concern, Milestones does its best to assist by providing services and connect parents with other necessary resources. Thank you for standing with us and supporting us as we continue to address the needs of the children and adults, we all love and who deserve to have a happy, safe and engaging place to learn and grow. By supporting Milestones tonight, you are supporting the future of all of the individuals we serve.

Milestones 2019 Derby Night Going The Extra Miles Leadership Award

Betty GalloBetty Gallo has spent the past forty years working to improve the rights and standing of individuals across our state who are the most vulnerable and often, the most overlooked. She has been a stalwart crusader for children and adults with special needs. Over the years, Betty partnered with CCCD/MBS to fight for protections for behavior analysts and the people they serve. She lobbied for: licensure for Certified Behavioral Analysts; criminal penalties for anyone who claimed to be a certified behavior analyst yet did not have the appropriate degree or training; and, a law, making behavior analysts, mandated reporters.

Milestones Behavioral Services is proud to present Betty Gallo with the 2019 Milestones Going the Extra Miles Leadership Award.In 1981, Betty founded Betty Gallo & Co., a lobbying and government relations firm, which provided non-profits with access to effective advocacy before the Connecticut General Assembly. The firm became Gallo & Robinson, LLC in 2014 when Kate Robinson became a partner.

The firm has provided non-profits, health care professions, unions and civil rights groups with an extremely knowledgeable voice in the CT General Assembly. This is backed by years of experience and strengthened by good relationships throughout all areas of the CT government and in all political parties.

For 38 years, the firm has sponsored the CT Lobbying Conference, a full day training session to teach people how to lobby the Connecticut General Assembly, training for over 3,000 people. Providing that training was important to Betty because of her strong belief in the idea best expressed by Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Though Betty retired this past fall, her Gallo & Robinson colleagues, with Kate Robinson’s leadership, are still fighting to protect the same rights she was dedicated to throughout her career.

Milestones Family Services of Connecticut was established by MBS to meet the needs of our community by offering outpatient treatment services to those diagnosed with autism or neurodevelopmental disorders and their families. We believe that family participation is critical in the assessment and treatment of individuals diagnosed with special needs.
