MIMO Testbed (Development Platform)Based on C700 PlatformABSTRACT

is an emerging cost-effective wireless technology that offers

significant improvements to data throughput in a non-line-of-sight environment. Investigating

properties of actual channels and determining optimal transmission schemes for MIMO has been the

subject of research nowadays. One field of this activity concerns the development of suitable signal

propagation models to predict MIMO performance under varying physical conditions. This task and a

lot of others can be accomplished using what’s called MIMO testbed.

In this setup, will be employed to build a with a 40

MHz real time bandwidth. Beside a lot of other applications, The C700 platform can be defined as a

scalable MIMO system with a common clock and shared local oscillator to fulfil phase coherence

requirements. The system can be configured to investigate the performance of MIMO algorithms and

channel models and it is easily upgradeable to higher order of channels.

MIMO Testbed (Development Platform)Based on C700 PlatformMIMO Channel ModelingModeling complex behavior of a physical MIMO channel can be described mathematically using mathematical computational languages & simulation as an accurate numerical environment. Still real measurements are required using a practical test hardware .This will be performed here using C700 platform that meets the complexity requirements of state-of-the-art MIMO algorithms.

As shown in figure 1, the key to MIMO channel modeling is obtaining the channel matrix where the transmitting and receiving frames including noise are described in terms of channel vectors.

MIMO Testbed (Development Platform)Based on C700 PlatformMIMO Channel ModelingIn figure 2, C700 platform is structured in a 4×4 MIMO Transmitter and Receiver stations where IQ Samples are sent to VSM1(Vector Signal Modulator) modules , each module is configured with a unique scrambled Walsh code, and are all triggered to start at the same time(for synchron i zat ion) . Modu les are programmed to continuously repeat a certain frame. At the Receiver side, the VSD2 (Vector Signal demodulator) modules receive a command to start sampling at the same time, and then samples are sent to the PC for processing and producing the channel matrix.
