Driving a tractor is certainly more than just sittingin it and driving away. You know that most of all.There are different conditions to consider for everyoperation you carry out with your tractor. Driving with the joystickThe ingenious control which allows you can carry out all functionsusing only your right hand, without having to change grips.You can accelerate, decelerate and reverse as well as activate theTempomat with only a small movement of the joystick. You can oper-ate all other functions, from the easy-to-use PTO automatic mode tothe headland management system, with the ergonomically friendlymulti-function buttons.

TRACTOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

When the TMS (Tractor Management System) is activated, the tractorelectronics control the engine and transmission. This significantlyincreases operating comfort for the driver. The driver only needs toset the desired speed; the TMS controls the rest. In the graphic above,one can recognize that the tractor drives on level ground at a reduced

engine speed. On the slope, the load increases, so the TMS increasesthe engine speed. As soon as the load decreases (on level ground ordownhill) the quantity of fuel injected is reduced. This maintains aneconomical driving style since TMS drives the tractor at the lowestengine speed possible.

Driving pedal modeSet the direction you would like to drive with your left hand, then allthat is needed to start the tractor is to press the driving pedal. In thedriving pedal mode, only the right foot is required to drive the tractor– similar to a car with an automatic transmission. The further thepedal is pressed down, the faster the tractor goes. The sliding controlon the armrest sets the maximum speed that is attained when thepedal is pressed all the way down. If you release the pressure on thepedal, the 800 VarioTMS decelerates.

For an additional engine braking effect, the driver can alsotake over control of the TMS in the driving pedal mode andreduce the transmission ratio manually.

VARIO OPERATION –EASY AS EVER

Driving forwardPush the joystick for-ward; the Vario acceleratesforward from standstill.Accelerate forwardNot fast enough? Thenpush the joystick forward abit longer, until you have reached thedesired speed.DecelerateIf you are going too fast, pull the joystickback and the Vario 800 brakes the engine andtransmission.ReversePull the joystick back and the Vario reverses from standstill. Fasteror slower reverse speeds function in the same way as for forwardtravel.Rapid or slow accelerationHow rapidly or slowly you accelerate or decelerate is determined bywhich of the four pre-set acceleration rates you select with the thumbcontrol.Automatic forward/reverseGiving the joystick a quick tap to the left is all that is necessary tochange driving direction from forward to reverse or vice versa. TheVario decelerates to a standstill by itself and then accelerates, with-out jerking, in the opposite direction. Tempomat cruise controlThe Tempomat holds the tractor at a constant pre-set speed. All thatis required to activate it, is to give the joystick a quick tap to theright.

NEW: The switch on the steering column adjustmentlever has three functions: 1. Changing directions while driving. 2. Setting travel direction in the

driving pedal mode. 3. Stop and go function with active

parking func tion:If the switch is pressed while mov-ing, the tractor decelerates to astandstill. The tractor only starts todrive again when the switch hasbeen released. This functionprovides even more com-fort for all work whichrequires frequentshort stops.

Thanks to elec-tronic engine control (EEC), the engines haveimpressive power reserves. This new generationof engines already fulfils pending emission stan-dards today.Through the intelligent communication betweenthe engine and Vario transmission (VARIO TMS),important performance values were improvedsignificantly. The Fendt Vario is a genuine stepless drive. Thetransmission (ML 160) and rear axle (HA 160)were developed especially for compact heavy-duty tractors. The new drive train boasts anexceptionally compact design and superior per-formance values. The new Tractor ManagementSystem co-ordinates the intelligent combinationof engine and transmission, which guaranteesmaximum power transfer, in the field and duringhaulage. This perfect drive unit featuring superi-or profitability is impressive.

Power splittingThe engine output is split into amechanical and a hydrostatic sectionby a planetary gear. Only thehydraulic branch controls the system.Both power trains are consolidated inthe collecting shaft.

Starting with the VarioWhen starting, the major part of theengine output flows over the hydro-static branch. The efficient interplaybetween the mechanical and hydro-static sections can be recognized bythe high acceleration values. Thehigher the speed of the vehicle, themore the tractive power shifts to themechanical branch.

Forward/reverse travelChanging driving direction is ex-tremely simple with the Fendt Varioconcept: the hydraulic pump is justswung out in the opposite direction.No more power draining mechanicalforward/reverse shifting.

The secret of the Fendt Vario-DriveSince the Vario drive uses largehydrostatic units, the complete travelspeed range from 0.02 to 50 kph canbe covered by just 2 travel speeds.This, together with the exclusive 45degree displacement angle, results innew dimensions in efficiency. At thesame time, this concept allows thecontrols to be simplified, makingthem failsafe.
