    A n ew equiva lent def in i t ion of the ra inflow cyc le cou nt ing m ethod is presented, wh ich

    expresses the ra inf low cyc le ampl i tudes in expl ic it ana ly t ica l formulae . The m ethod

    at taches to each m aximum of the s t ra in funct ion the amp l itude of a corresponding

    cycle or tw o ha l f cyc les , wh ich are eva luated indepen dent ly f rom each other . Th is

    def in i t ion is more convenient for the s ta t is t ica l ana lys is of ra in f low cyc le ampl i tudes

    for a random loading process.
