Abruzzo is where the sea meets land, where farmers meet fishermen and where pastoral pursuits meet

seafaring traditions. A combination able to kindle emotions, a sense of freedom and pure

light-heartedness. The coastline stretches for 130 Km, creating many di!erent environments along its way

from north to south, from cool pinewoods to sandy and rocky beaches, cli!s and headlands. All these

features are able to cater to any type of requirement: fun and relaxation, lively beaches and solitary coves.

And immediately behind the coastline stand the mountains – a totally unusual and suggestive landscape.

In the land of Abruzzo, life is “easy”, peace and quiet

reign supreme over the natural environment,

traditional flavours dominate the table, folklore gives

life to lively and much-enjoyed sociality. That is why

living in Abruzzo means rediscovering the

authenticity of life, achieving the perfect balance of

mind and body, through contact with nature, lots of

fresh air and wholesome food.

The real protagonist is Nature, with its colours, its

landscapes and its fragrances. Abruzzo is in fact

Europe’s greenest region, the beating heart of a

tourist destination where corners of paradise still

exist – solitary valleys, headlands, waterfalls, peaks

and pinnacles that take your breath away.

The huge variety of natural environments, from those

of the coast to those of the mountains, from lakes to

rivers, are home to a universe of animals, including

rare species like the Marsican bear, the Apennine

wolf, the Abruzzo chamois and the golden eagle.

John Paul II and Abruzzo, the pope’s favourite region

for skiing and hiking.

Page 4: a new concept - Living in Abruzzo

And then there is history, ready to spring to life wherever you look; a past narrated by

numerous villages of living stone, nestled among and on top of mountains. In these places,

among these settings, the great men of Abruzzo found their inspiration – Gabriele d’Annunzio,

F.P. Micheletti, F.P. Tosti. Their works represent a priceless heritage of art and culture. Here,

where the closeness of nature would seem to make souls purer, numerous places of the faith

can still be found – ancient sanctuaries, caves and hermitages recount the mystery of

transcendence and speak of ancient legends and stories of people and lands.

And then…museums and archaeological sites, craftsmanship and flavours make the land of

Abruzzo easily recognizable. Like visiting a large open-air museum, with the remains of old

castles and medieval buildings, the many archaeological sites are steeped in history, stimulating

the traveller’s curiosity as he/she seeks long-kept secrets and

hidden treasures.

Among these treasures of Abruzzo are the region’s deep-rooted

culinary traditions, comprising a whole range of local produce,

exclusive recipes and exceptionally refined and unusual flavours.

The culinary art of Abruzzo is enhanced by various events

organized in the region throughout the year: village fetes and

festivals and tasting routes. Walking, exploring, discovering.

Resting, tasting and being surprised. Abruzzo makes life

unforgettable and has the “ability to make people happy”.

Borgo Majella is nestled among the green hills of

Serramonacesca, in Abruzzo, at the foot of the Majella

mountain range. It is well linked to all the main highways.

The Serramonacesca area is crossed by the upper course

of the Alento river and is an integral part of the Majella

National Park.

The town is set amid breathtaking scenery – beach and

oak woodland. The river initially runs along a deep gorge

before flowing, in its lower reaches, between banks lined

with willow and poplar trees.

In this enchanted location, where life is still wholesome

and simple, people are able to rediscover themselves,

the silence and poetry of the sounds, fragrances and

colours of nature.

The town still boasts many traditional-style houses, most of which have been restored to cater to the

requirements of modern life, but without ever relinquishing the wonderful charm of times gone by.

At Serramonacesca, life is serene, but never monotonous. The surrounding area o!ers plenty of

opportunities. Hiking and walking trails leading to holy places, ancient ruins and fascinating

traditions and, of course, the delicious flavours of Abruzzo cuisine. Very famous is the

“MagnaMajella”, a wine and gastronomic route that links Passolanciano and Serramonacesca. A trail

made up of tasting paths and stages

surrounded by a breathtaking natural

environment.

Only a short distance from the town is

Passolanciano la Maielletta, with its winter

ski facilities and summer hiking trails.
