Last month I wrote to this prestigious group of our Mission. It’s probably

something you've heard before, and something we’ll build on again this

month. We stand ready to continue our “Lions meeting year” next month.

While most of us have enjoyed a great summer off, other Lions continue to

work on various projects. The Golf outing planning, planning this Lion

year, the Concession stand and the Gala fundraising continues to go on.

In our 31 years of residency in the Village of Grafton, Lisa and I raised our

family and watched our Village change. Yes, there are more than two traffic

signals in Grafton now and the four way stop at Riebe Olds has been

replaced by a traffic signal. Manchester Mall has been replaced by the vast

shopping area on the east side of the Village. The Grafton Lions work and

generosity has remained a constant in the community yet, many of the

names have changed. Just as some of our landmarks have changed in

Grafton, so goes the GLC. We have brought on several new faces and some

of our senior members are no longer with us. Time rolls on and changes

take place.

We certainly must remain vigilant in our work as Lions. We stand very well

purposed this year to continue on our pursuit of our mission and to grow our

presence in the community. We have position descriptions for of our

officers and we have implemented a new process for planning new events,

which will improve our efficiency. Our Third VP, Laurie Klos, will reach

out to all Committee Chairpersons to collect service hours and report to the

BOD through the Club Secretary. Our Second VP Slava Krol, will reach out

to the community to find speakers that will provide information to the

community while keeping our PR Chair and Communication Chair in the

loop. We have visions for our membership drive that will present our Club

to the community to increase membership.

Speaking of membership, an invitation to join is something that can’t be

forgotten! 10 years ago, I was invited to join the GLC with my sponsor and

neighbor Lion Tom Krueger asking me if I’d like to join. Almost

immediately, I accepted the invitation to join. Except for a brief hiatus due

to job change, I haven’t looked back. Even when I was on the hiatus, I had

several members invite me back. These invites proved vital to my decision

LCIF

In the world of Lions you run across myriad list of acronyms, one of which is LCIF. Lions

Clubs International Foundation, or LCIF, should not be confused with Lions Clubs International,

or LCI. LCIF is the official charitable organization of the Lions Clubs International, LCI. LCIF

was incorporated as a foundation in 1968. As a leading humanitarian organization, LCIF

supports Lions’ works by providing grant funding for their local and global humanitarian efforts.

As club LCIF Coordinator, it is my job to educate club members about Lions Clubs International

Foundation programs and initiatives, as well the many benefits of supporting LCIF. I will

provide updates on significant initiatives and may make club presentations. I will do this with a

monthly article in our club newsletter.

In future articles I will tell you how LCIF is funded, how it operates, the causes it supports and

how it supports those causes. I will give you some results as to the impact we have made on the

lives of people. You will also learn about some of the partnerships LCIF has with other

organizations. I will give you some of the history of LCIF and its accomplishments. I look

forward to teaching you about LCIF and anytime you have questions about LCIF please come

and ask them.

Thank you,

Lion Darrel Blank
