Tips From The Pro

Foot Spray Can Help You Play Better

No, I’m not talking about more comfortable feet, although that certainly won’t hurt anything. What I am referring to is using Dr. Scholl’s Odor X foot spray to be able to identify the impact point of your golf ball on the face of the club. Why is this important? Because your brain will react to where the ball goes, but without knowing the impact point you will more than likely draw the wrong conclusion, which will only lead to more inconsistency. It is very important to understand that a ball struck toward the heel of the club will tend to go to the right and a ball struck toward the toe will curve left. (This is called gear effect.) In fact, the face of the club can be closed at impact, but the ball can still curve significantly to the right if the strike is near the heel.

So remember knowledge is power and this little old school trick can give you more knowledge and power and straighter tee shots too!

MGA Member Spotlight Johnny (Jay) Morris

Jay and his wife Sarah moved to BridgeMill two years ago. They have two daughters, Mckenzie (pictured) and Alexa. Jay works as a network consulting engineer, but he can still find the time for his favorite game, Golf. Jay uses his Titleist 917 driver and big swing to drive the green on his favorite hole, #11. He will often make birdie on this hole and others with his trusty Scotty Cameron Newport putter. Jay is a 12 handicap and is a tough competitor in his favorite format, Match Play. A regular in most MGA events and the Saturday game, he is often seen enjoying a delicious Featherstone’s Grille Gyro Wrap after a round of golf. Jay has a very positive outlook and his love of golf fits right in with his love of life! He says, “the greatest thing about tomorrow is, I will be better than I am today and that's how I look at my life. I will be a better golfer, I will be a better person, I will be a better father, I will be a better husband, and I will be a better friend. That's the beauty of tomorrow.”

MGA Player of the Year (POY) – The MGA “season long battle” MGA Members receive participation and placement bonus points for designated MGA POY events throughout the 2017 season. The member with the most points at the end of the year will receive a trophy and a BMAC locker. In addition, the POY standings will qualify participants for the team to represent BridgeMill in the MGA Challenge vs. Lake Arrowhead in October.

LGA News

BridgeMill Ladies Golf Association is ON for the 2017 season. We have reserved tee times on Wednesday morning starting around 10 and Wednesday evening around 6 for 9 holes. Wanna play with us? Call the Pro Shop to put your name on the list and verify the tee time then come on out. Also, bring a friend! We encourage anyone that is not an LGA member to come out once to play with us and see if you would like to join. It is a great way to meet ladies that like to have fun and exercise. Saturday, March 25th was our first tournament of the season: 50 Shades of Green and the emphasis was on green! Kelly Cook came up with some fun and witty ways to play for fun: we tried to hit about 120 yards on #2 to a pot of green, #8 was our skill in getting into one of 3 squares surround the hole for additional pointsa and #14 we had to drive with a junior club to get closest to the center of the fairway. This was a team event so additional points were calculated based on the team handicap so it leveled the playing field for a no pressure event. 1st place went to Terry, Liz, Bev and Joyce. 2nd place consisted of Nancy, Pam, Kelly and Cleo, 3rd place was Diana, Donna, Kim and Char and 4th place was made up of Becky, Molly, Debra and Denise. Closest to the Pot of Green on 2 was Cleo Hutchins and Closest to the marker on #14 was Char Bailey. We rounded out the afternoon with a sandwich buffet with green salad, fresh fruit and cupcakes iced with green grass. The decorations were little golf carts at each table dotted with golf balls and green grass put together by Debra Smith. See participation photos below. Our next tournament is Saturday May 6th so if you have not signed up be sure to look for your evite. If you have been thinking about joining our club, now is the time! All tournaments are reserved for LGA members with an established handicap. See our website: www.bmaclga.com for a participation form and instructions on how to establish a handicap. A good way is to play with us! Even a 9 hole round will go toward your total score so you can do it a little at a time while learning the course and perfecting your stroke. Our facebook page is https://facebook.com/bmaclga for updated photos and details on events.

Junior Golf Academy The spring session of the Junior Golf Academy has had a very successful start. It is great to see so many returning junior golfers as well as some new faces to our academy! The session will conclude with a mini-tournament the week of May 12th.

Mobility Workout May 6th & 20th, 10:00am

At the Fitness Center Mobility exercises are a great way to not only improve flexibility but also to optimize physical performance both in and out of the gym. Mobility is simply defined as the degree of freedom of movement around a joint or body segment and is a balance of flexibility, strength, and uninhibited motion. Along with balance and core stability, mobility should be a primary goal of functional movement!

This routine is designed to be used as a warm-up for a workout or as a stand-alone to increase range of motion around key joints while enhancing stability where needed. The exercises in this workout will provide non-stop dynamic movement.

Please join us for this complimentary workout. RSVP to 770-345-2990.

BridgeMill Sixes Service League Our Bunco for Charity event was a great success! The night was filled with laughter, delicious food and fellowship! Look for to more Bunco Nights in the near future as this event has quickly become a BridgeMill community favorite! Thank you to all who attended. Cherokee Family Violence Center received the proceeds from this event.

Summer is almost here and the BSSL is wrapping up our springtime events and gearing up for Summer service projects! Mark your calendar for our final Springtime event! Friday, May 12th: Relay for Life, Sequoyah High School. 6:00pm - Midnight Relay for Life is a night where the community gathers together to fight back against Cancer, celebrate survivors, and remember those we have lost. People from all over Cherokee County join to raise funds at this festival type event for Cancer research, education, and patient services. Proceeds from this event go to The American Cancer Society and cancer patients and families in Cherokee County. For more information on our fight against Cancer please go to: www.bssl.org

Summer is an ideal time for families to come together and give back! Our Give a Kid a Chance and Summer Lunch programs are perfect opportunities for children to volunteer along side their parents: Give a Kid a Chance (GAKAC) A nonprofit that gives students in need free backpacks filled with school supplies, new socks and undies, haircuts, gently used clothing and medi-cal screenings. GAKAC was formed to help low income children get prepared for the upcoming school year. Since we started participating in the program the BSSL has given out over 500 hygiene kits to families in need in Cherokee County.

Summer Lunch Program Created in memory of one of our founding BSSL members Barb Nugent, our program provides food and packs lunch bags for 2,500 children each summer as part of Cherokee County’s Ministry for Service and Training (MUST) summer lunch program. This program provides thousands of summer lunches for local disadvantaged children who otherwise would not have a meal without the subsidized school lunch program.

We have several opportunities over the summer for your family to volunteer! Volunteering can benefit your child tremendously, as well as help create a family bond. Our volunteer schedules are flexible! Please email for details at [email protected].

Our next business meeting will be held Thursday, May 18th, 7:00pm at The Terrace. Come and hear all the great things that are happening with this organization. You can also visit our website at www.bssl.org and like us on facebook or contact Susan Gaines at [email protected].

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

32 Visit the Service League website at www.bssl.org Scenes from Bunco for Charities!

As we enter into May, temperatures are beginning to rise and the community will be preparing for its summer season. Pur-suant to the Covenants for BridgeMill, please bear in mind that boats are not allowed in sight within the community, and will need to be stored offsite. The same rule applies to any other recreational and/or commercial vehicle, these must be parked in a garage out of sight or stored offsite completely.

The spring weather is also when homeowners make plans for exterior repairs and improvements. If you plan to paint the exterior of your home, install a fence, a pool, etc. , please remember that you must complete an Architectural Request Com-mittee (ARC) application, requesting approval for your exterior work and changes. For questions, email: [email protected] or modification form is available on bridgemill.org
