The University of Central Florida’s Latino Faculty and Staff Association (LaFaSA) is an organization dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for the needs and goals of Latino faculty and staff at UCF. LaFaSA seeks to advance educational and work opportunities that would enhance the status of Latinos/as within the university community. LaFaSA’s mission is to promote a family environment that embraces and respects the various identities within the Latino/a culture through quality, bilingual programming, networking opportunities and guidance, to UCF’s Latino students, faculty and staff; and the greater UCF community. A Model for Latino College Success Inspired by their passion for children and by a shared desire to improve the lives of children living in urban poverty, Michael and Susan Dell established their efforts on improving education and children’s health in Central Texas. But within a few short years, their reach expanded, first nationally and then globally. To date, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has committed more than $1.1 billion to assist nonprofit organizations and social enterprises working in major urban communities in the United States.

CREAR Futuros: A Model for Latino College Success

CREAR Futuros provides an exclusive opportunity for incoming freshmen, sophomore and newly admitted transfer students at the University of Central Florida (UCF) to position themselves on a path to success!

What is CREAR Futuros? CREAR Futuros, which means “To Create Futures” in Spanish, is a peer-mentor based initiative designed to improve student success at targeted UCF colleges.

CREAR (College Readiness, Achievement and Retention) students will be paired with knowledgeable and highly trained upper-class UCF peer-mentors that will introduce them to campus resources, provide tips on stress and time management, and offer insight on how to make the most out of their time at UCF.

This competitive program will provide participants with internship and professional development opportunities, and access to a range of support services.

Who is Involved?

Hispanic Federation, a leading Latino advocacy and nonprofit membership organization, and the Latino Faculty and Staff Association at UCF, are partnering with Latino community-based agencies, public policy stakeholders, and business leaders to launch this esteemed program committed to achieving systemic change and large scale collective impact on Latino college access, retention and graduation.

Am I Eligible? Students who have an interest in improving the success rates for Latinos in higher education are encouraged to apply quickly and are selected on a first come, first serve basis. This program is open to incoming freshman, sophomore, and newly admitted transfer students of all races and ethnicities, attending:
