Adaptation to the Anna Program that began in Anna, Illinois.
Anna program used with primary students for one year prior to starting.
Three schools piloted the intermediate program the first year.
Four certified teachers
All Third and Fourth Grade Students
Flexible Grouping/Differentiated Instruction
30 minutes each day, four days per week
Weekly planning/discussion meetings
Embedded Professional Development
Room divided into four squares
Each teacher has an area for supplies

Diverse Learners
Less than 60% of intermediate students were meeting standards.
Needed to strengthen our core curriculum
Provides students with on level instruction and consistent assessment
Eliminates the “what are the other kids doing” of guided reading.
Provides teachers with discussion time and feedback.
Word Work and Poetry– 10 minutes daily
Guided Reading/ Comprehension strategies-20 minutes per day
Special focus on fluency and vocabulary development
Friday planning with teachers/ whole class lesson for students
All students receive a new poem each week
Students practice orally reading the poem for fluency during the first few minutes of reading lab each day.

Emphasis on Prefixes and Suffixes
