A MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR It’s just over six weeks since the massive June storms hit the Northern Beaches with devastating consequences. Aſter the initial huge recovery effort, with thanks to all involved including Council staff and emergency services, remedial work is well underway. The schedule of works across the area is significant with repairs required to many public places including walkways, parks and foreshores. These works are in addition to those that were still ongoing from last year’s storms and are essential for the long term protection and safety of these areas. I would like to thank the community for their patience while we work through these, which in some cases are major projects. The South Curl Curl seawall is a case in point, with extensive construction work required following damaging surf conditions last year. The submerged concrete seawall which was built close to 10 years ago will be extended from in front of the surf club to the south, to ensure the carpark and Carrington Parade are protected. These works will be completed in time for summer so the beach and foreshore can be enjoyed by all. Marine Parade, the pathway connecting Manly Beach with Shelly Beach is another significant project. To date, sewer pipes have been repaired by Sydney Water, with Council continuing to fix the walkway as well as stairs, handrails and the sandstone rock face. This involves repositioning very large pieces of sandstone that were dislodged from the seawall during the storm – some of these weighing as much as 400kg. Restoring Fairy Bower Pool is also part of this important work with stainless steel stairs and handrails needing to be fixed aſter they were ripped out by the force of the waves. Weather permitting, the entire walkway is scheduled to be re-opened in late August. There is a myriad of other works being carried out across the Northern Beaches as a result of the storms, with major repairs required to the seawall at Pittwater Park, Palm Beach and work required to stabilise rocks above both Avalon and Bilgola Rockpools. For more information about the works visit Council’s website. With all of these works, public safety remains our key priority and we ask you please do not enter any work site until it has been re-opened. A MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR

It’s just over six weeks since the massive June storms hit the Northern Beaches with devastating consequences.

After the initial huge recovery effort, with thanks to all involved including Council staff and emergency services, remedial work is well underway.
